Read an Excerpt
“Getting colder,” Jack said and shuffled his boots over the icy turf. “By the time this is over all these people will be half frozen.”

Helen Kaito turned toward her husband and into the onslaught of wind and snow. Snatches of live broadcasts from breathless reporters floated on the wind and swirled around the crowd 200 strong. Just his way of preserving that stoic reserve, Helen thought. She pulled her scarf tight around her neck and stuffed both hands into her jacket pockets. Around them people stamped their feet in the snowy field hard against the banks of Elkhart’s St. Joe River. “How much longer?”

She watched Jack look around the field. Police officers stood in small groups talking quietly among themselves. Firefighters stayed near their rigs waiting to put their exhaustive training to work. The silence spoke volumes. No celebration here. “They told me it should happen about 4:10 pm.”

“My God, Jack...”

Jack nodded slowly. “I know, hon. It sucks.”

Helen watched the crowd searching the northeastern sky. Some pointed. At what? She checked her watch. Not yet. Too soon.

Jack unzipped his backpack and pulled out binoculars. Helen had given him the heavier items when they geared up back home. She took water—frozen by now—energy bars, extra gloves, socks, and the knit cap she knew Jack probably wouldn’t wear. Summer or winter, he liked the feeling of the breeze on his shaven head. “What?”

Unnatural Causes by Dawn Eastman- A Great Escapes Tour-Book Review/Giveaway

About the book
Katie LeClair has finally settled down as the new doctor in Baxter, MI. After years of moving, schooling, and training, she wants nothing more than to find a place she can call home, and a small town outside of Ann Arbor seemed perfect.
Katie quickly gets to work in building a life for herself in Baxter, and beyond reviving her love life, she also finds a pair of business partners in a team of father and son family practitioners. But that idyllic dream is immediately shattered when one of her patients is found dead. That wouldn’t be the worst thing, except the death is ruled a suicide, and as evidence has it, the suicide was a result of the medication Katie had prescribed. But she doesn’t remember writing it.
When a closer investigation reveals it was murder, Katie is catapulted into an off-the-books investigation that leads her down a dark path of past secrets. But someone is willing to kill to keep part of the town’s history in the shadows, and Katie must race to find out who before it’s too late in nationally bestselling author Dawn Eastman’s riveting series debut Unnatural Causes.
What others said
Wow!
This is a step up from a cozy but not as dark and most police type procedural novel . . .I liked getting to know Katie as the story progressed. I definitely want to get to know her better in upcoming books.
~A Chick Who Reads
This story is just full of little medical details that just set the story apart really giving Katie some depth. The development has lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing even when they think they are keeping up.
~Books a Plenty Book Reviews
Unnatural Causes has more character depth than the average mystery, and it combines elements of both cozy and traditional mysteries. The story is clean, which I very much appreciate, and there’s even a hint of romance.
~The Power of Words
The author does a great job of giving you information that can make you think one thing when it was something else.
~Books, Movies, Reviews. Oh my!
And I thought
Suspense? Thriller? Cozy? This is one that the cover doesn't tell us.
Honesty I expected it to be more of a thriller and a little dark.

I dare to say someone that is a fan of Cozy's and not the other two might not give Unnatural Causes a chance.

And, that would be bad.

Unnatural Causes is a little different that most cozy's but still will fall in the category.

This was a great read.  The character(s) are fun to get to know.
Katie is a strong character.  The author provides the reader with just enough medical jargon to make the book readable without being confusing for a layman.

There is a little romance simmering for book 2.

It's always fun to get into a series at the beginning.  I  am looking forward to book 2.

This was a great clean read and worthy of checking out!

Welcome to another mystery full of, small town zaniness, kooky characters, a kick butt main character and all-in-all a well written, fast-paced read by Rachael Stapleton!
~The Montana Bookaholic
A captivating cozy mystery to enjoy in front of a roaring fire.
~Laura’s Interests
And I thought
Just sayin' there's a reason Ex's are Ex's.  Especially when their suspected of murder.
But good 'ole Penelope throws caution to the wind and the slopes when said ex is numero uno in the murder of his current wife.
Murder She Slopes is a good ole cozy that keeps the reader enthralled and involved as victims pile up.  Suspects are a plenty.
And then there's the hunky detective boyfriend who isn't too happy that Penelope can't say no to sleuthing and helping the ex.
Murder She Slopes is full of interesting characters that keeps the reader interested and wondering 'who dun it'.

A Murder For The Books by Victoria Gilbert-Great Escapes Tour Book Review/Giveaway

About the book
Fleeing a disastrous love affair, university librarian Amy Webber moves in with her aunt in a quiet, historic mountain town in Virginia. She quickly busies herself with managing a charming public library that requires all her attention with its severe lack of funds and overabundance of eccentric patrons. The last thing she needs is a new, available neighbor whose charm lures her into trouble.
Dancer-turned-teacher and choreographer Richard Muir inherited the farmhouse next door from his great-uncle, Paul Dassin. But town folklore claims the house’s original owner was poisoned by his wife, who was an outsider. It quickly became water under the bridge, until she vanished after her sensational 1925 murder trial. Determined to clear the name of the woman his great-uncle loved, Richard implores Amy to help him investigate the case. Amy is skeptical until their research raises questions about the culpability of the town’s leading families… including her own.
When inexplicable murders plunge the quiet town into chaos, Amy and Richard must crack open the books to reveal a cruel conspiracy and lay a turbulent past to rest in A Murder for the Books, the first installment of Victoria Gilbert’s Blue Ridge Library mysteries.
And others are saying
What really got me about this one, was how different this book is from a normal cozy. Librarian, Amy, is trying to clear the name of a woman who went missing back in 1925 for her neighbor, Richard. (Is that a potential love interest I see?)
Right there you have something totally unique. It makes this a cold case cozy!
~A Chick Who Reads
Excellent writing with some great new characters all set to make you want to read some more.
~Books a Plenty Book Reviews
I found this to be a very entertaining mystery that kept me on the edge of my seat. The author does a really good job of keeping the action going throughout the telling of the story.
~Author Teresa Trent
And I thought
I  was trying make a list of all the reasons I expected to like  love this book.
First there was the fact it's a Cozy.  Small town.  Library setting which btw I loved.  I used to live in a pretty small town and loved the library.  It wasn't really cozy though.  1st in the series.
What I didn't realize was that A Murder By The Books is a bit
of a thriller in that it is about a cold case.
And it fits all those things I and most people enjoy about a cozy.

The main character Amy ends up helping her neighbor Richard search to finds clues to what happened to his aunt who disappeared in 1925.
All this and then things go haywire in town.  Are Amy and Richard stirring up trouble?
Are the towns folks hiding things?
Will Amy and Richard become better acquainted?
Hmm.
Check it out you'll enjoy the ride!

Movie Magic by Michelle Garren Flye- A Goddess Fish Tour-Book Review/Giveaway

About the book
Lights…camera…magic!

Sabrina Parker has spent her professional life creating unbelievable stunts and magical effects for movies and stage magicians. Now she needs some special magic to help her bring her movie to life. Her search leads her to the very unlikely stage of Walt Bryson, host of a long-running children’s television show in Beaufort, North Carolina.

Walt isn’t terribly happy about taking Hollywood’s call. He’s never sought the same notoriety as his colleagues Ian Logan and Andre Hawke. But there’s something about the beautiful, levelheaded Ms. Parker, and when he reads her screenplay, he knows he wants to work with her. For the first time in years, he’s willing to put tragedy behind him and make real magic.

Can Walt and Sabrina use love as their guide or will their past mistakes haunt their future?

Read an excerpt
What the hell kind of place was this town that she could be kidnapped off the street and carried off into a dark alley?

“Ouch! Hey, lady, the screaming’s good for effect, but I could do without the kicking!” The man who’d grabbed her smacked her bottom to get her attention. “Cut it out!”

“Put her down, Cal.” An amused voice from next to them made Sabrina freeze.

“Walt?” She craned her neck to try to see him.

“Gladly.” The man holding her swung her down over his shoulder, setting her none-too-gently on her feet and backing away.

Sabrina regained her balance and glared at him, then turned to see Walt, practically doubled over laughing and standing next to a girl in short shorts who looked just as amused. She whirled back to look at her kidnapper, realizing as she did that he was actually only about eighteen and wearing a pirate getup that made him look like a poor imitation of Jack Sparrow.

Walt, on the other hand, might have stepped right out of a movie. He wore a brocade vest over his tanned bare chest and his head was wrapped in a red scarf. Several rings decorated his fingers and he wore a gold chain with a medallion. His shoulder-length dark hair and beard completed the look to perfection. Sabrina fought off her attraction by embracing her irritation at the whole incident. “Would anyone like to tell me what the hell is going on here?”

And I thought
I love a good romance.  And, Movie Magic is just that.
The characters are charming and entice you into their story.
This was a rather fast read.  Which some days can be good.
It's good when you want to get to the end without a lot of just page turning.
Although Movie Magic is book 3 it reads as a stand alone.

I enjoyed this book so much that I would love to read the others in the series.

I can’t ask for a better mystery to read on the weekend, than one by Gayle. Gayle never leaves a reader hanging she leaves them wanting more from this series.
~Bibliophile Reviews
This book has strong characters that are easy to love (especially Homer with his hero of the day quotes), lots of details to hook the reader, and the development of a nice smooth ride until we hit the finale upset because it is the last page. I do believe I am falling in love with this series . . .

HONEY-BAKED HOMICIDE, the third book in Gayle Leeson’s Down South Café Mystery series is an entertaining read that combines both a twisty-turvey murder plot along with a cornucopia of colorful characters.

~Community Bookstop
I can’t say enough how much I love this cozy mystery series. In fact, the Down South Cafe books are one of my go-to series in this genre. They are clean, entertaining, well-plotted and full of yummy food.
~Reading Is My SuperPower
And I thought
A delightful and charming read.  Honey Baked Homicide is a keeper.

Winter Garden Valley is filled with fun and quirky characters that appear daily to satisfy their hunger at the Southern Cafe.

Amy is surrounded with fun friends and patrons from the quirky
Hector that has a penchant for making the day better with a quote to the hilarious Dilly who comes by everyday for lunch or breakfast and must have a biscuit for her pet raccoon.

I enjoyed the setting and was delighted that the author included
recipes at the end.

The mystery plot is interesting and takes the reader on a twisty
turny ride.

I had an idea who did the deed but was a little surprised along with Amy and the others when the actual villain was uncovered.

I enjoyed my visit to the Southern Cafe and look forward to reading more in this series.

About the book
Sky Lacroux has finally realized her dream and opened her own tattoo shop in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She’s happy as can be, preparing the shop for its grand opening and renting a cottage in the Seaside community while renovations to her new apartment are being completed. The only thing missing is the one thing she longs for, and has no control over—love.

Sawyer Bass, a professional boxer, plays his guitar at a local bar to escape the painful reality of his father’s deteriorating health and a recent health warning of his own. And I thought
My first thought is they just keep getting better.  But actually that sounds like each installment is better than the last.

I haven't read them all.  And, I have read them out of order but
there isn't a real need to read in order.

Each one I've read is just better it seems than the last.  Perhaps because we get to 'know' a different one of the characters better.

Nights at Seaside was a great read.  The characters are real.

Sky is sweet.  Had me wondering a little bit as I am not much into tattoo's.  I was thinking what's this character going to be about?
Sorry for the stereo type.

But I guess it kind of goes with how Sky felt about Sawyer at first. Finding out he is a boxer almost put the skids on any budding romance between the two.

Nights at Seaside is the 'sweet' version of the original book
Seaside Nights by Melissa Foster which is a little more sizzle and bedroom scenes.

I love that the author has provided us with this sweet story with just a little sizzle.

I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

And I thought
And the story goes on.  Beyond Forever is a trilogy.  Start
with book 1 to get the full story and stay up to speed on what's been going on.
Beyond Forever is a good read.  The trilogy is a good read.
It's a nice contemporary love story that will keep the reader engaged all the way to the end.

Personally I didn't really like the whole idea of Olivia talking to her deceased best friend.  And then in this installment Finn even ends up going to Dan for help when their relationship is on the rocks.

But this is fiction and it was a good read.

Beyond Forever ends the series with tying everything up in a nice little package.

The series is a good read.
If your looking for spending a good number of hours with a light hearted read the Beyond Trilogy fits the bill.
