Book Description:
Perfection can be a fatal endeavor.

Frustrated with their busy schedules, Murphy Thornton and Jessica Faraday attempt to find togetherness by scheduling a weekly date night. The last thing Jessica Faraday expected for her date night was to take a couple’s gourmet cooking course at the Stepford Kitchen Studio, owned by Chef Natalie Stepford―the model of perfection in looks, home, and business.

When Natalie ends up dead and Murphy goes missing, the Thorny Rose detectives must peel back the layers of Natalie Stepford’s life to discover that the pursuit of perfection can be deadly.
And I thought
I couldn't put it down.  I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.

Well actually I wasn't turning the pages.  But I would have been if I was reading a print copy.  I received the Audible copy.  And
now I am a fan of listening to books.  I had it downloaded on my phone and spent a day listening to it.

And I was literally on the edge of my seat and holding my breath.
I was thinking Oh my gosh are they going to find/save Murphy?

There is just no way she'd kill him off!  Would she?

The Thorny Rose Series featuring Jessica Faraday and
Murphy Thornton is a spin off series from the Mac Faraday series
and the Lovers in Crime series which both are fantastic reads in
the their on rite.

Murder by Perfection is a fast paced spell binding read with multiple layers of plots.  There's the murder of the 'perfect woman' Natalie a chef who has a bunch of secrets that end up getting her knocked off.  But by who?  Her plastic surgeon?  Or was it her husband? Or maybe the stalker that no one knew about until the investigation uncovers him.

One of the things that I enjoy about Lauren Carr;s series is how the characters cross over.  Murphy's father and brother come over from The Lovers in Crime series to investigate the murders and find Murphy who has mysteriously disappeared.

Don't worry if you've not gotten the chance to read any of the other books.  Each one is superbly written as a stand alone.  The only problem is I am sure you'll enjoy any one you pick up so much you'll want to read more.

I can easily say that Murder by Perfection is worthy  of 5 stars.
And I can easily say I'll be reading the next one!

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

The Viscount's Promise by Christina Britton-Silver Dagger Tour-Spotlight/Giveaway

Picture
This is a spotlight post for the Silver Dagger Tour
I have not read this book

About the book
Lady Emily Masters has harbored a secret infatuation for the dashing Malcolm Arborn, Viscount Morley since a childhood accident claimed the life of her twin brother and left her own face scarred. But when fate brings them together again for her brother’s wedding, she is dismayed to find instead of the brave gentleman who sheltered her after the tragedy, a surly rogue quick to quip and slow to trust.
To the cosmopolitan and haughty Malcolm, few engagements could possibly be more punishing than attending his friend’s country wedding―until the groom requests he watch over his timid sister during the weeks leading up to the ceremony. Fearful of her scar making her the center of attention to the visiting lords and ladies, Emily proves to be a difficult charge for the irascible bachelor.
Her diffidence an insult to his sensibilities, he finds a new purpose within his role: to bring out the bold woman within. But how can such a gentle creature as Emily abide his own coarseness? At odds with their natures, will these two willful souls be able to look beyond their past hurt to build a promising tomorrow?

Read an excerpt
“I would love to hear you play if you have the time for one more song.”
She shot him a quick, disbelieving glance, and immediately regretted it. They were close, closer even than they had been during the dance. Her mouth went dry. “You want me to play for you?”
“Yes, please.”
“You have heard me play before,” she reminded him.
“Yes, but that was different.”
She frowned. “How?”
He looked flummoxed for a moment, as if he hadn’t expected the question and didn’t have the least idea how to answer it. Finally, he shrugged. “There was something more to your playing this morning. I cannot explain it.”
His eyes were fervent and wondering as he looked down at her. Had he truly heard the emotions she had poured into her music, the bit of her soul she had bared in her playing? It touched her deeply that he sensed it, for he had been the one to inspire it in the first place. Something warm unfurled in her chest. In that moment she would not have denied him anything. “Very well,” she whispered.
On shaky legs she returned to her place at the pianoforte. He sat halfway across the length of the room, as if he were trying to maintain some space between them. And yet Emily could feel his gaze on her like a physical touch. Taking a deep breath, she laid her fingers on the keys and, closing her eyes, began to play. She could have chosen a piece of incredible difficulty to lay every bit of her skill out in front of him. Instead her fingers glided over the keys, finding and weaving through a soft, plaintive melody. It was slow and deep, reflecting her heart and what Malcolm was pulling from it. For he was dragging emotions from her she never thought to feel.
Every strike of the hammers on the strings vibrated through her, from her fingertips to her very core. Tears pressed against her closed lids. Did he hear it? Could he feel what she was putting into the song? All too soon the last note died away. The echo of it was slower to leave her, flowing through her body, swirling about her heart. She was almost bereft when that, too, died away. But with the loss of it, she became aware of something else missing as well.
There was not a sound in the room. Had he left? With great will she opened her eyes, quickly blinking away her tears, and looked in the direction he had been sitting. He was there still, his dark eyes intent on her, his expression rapt. That look was like a spark to dry tinder; suddenly it was as if the music had started up again, the magic of it touching her very soul.
“Thank you,” he said, his voice hushed and fervent. He smiled, and a bit of the scar that had grown, protective and tough, around Emily’s heart fell away. As she watched him go, she clutched her arms about her waist, more frightened than she had ever been.

Mardi Gras Murder by Ellen Byron-Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
Southern charm meets the dark mystery of the bayou as a hundred-year flood, a malicious murder, and a most unusual Mardi Gras converge at the Crozat Plantation B&B.
It’s Mardi Gras season on the bayou, which means parades, pageantry, and gumbo galore. But when a flood upends life in the tiny town of Pelican, Louisiana—and deposits a body of a stranger behind the Crozat Plantation B&B—the celebration takes a decidedly dark turn. The citizens of Pelican are ready to Laissez les bon temps rouler—but there’s beaucoup bad blood on hand this Mardi Gras.
Maggie Crozat is determined to give the stranger a name and find out why he was murdered. The post-flood recovery has delayed the opening of a controversial exhibit about the little-known Louisiana Orphan Train. And when a judge for the Miss Pelican Mardi Gras Gumbo Queen pageant is shot, Maggie’s convinced the murder is connected to the body on the bayou. Does someone covet the pageant queen crown enough to kill for it? Could the deaths be related to the Orphan Train, which delivered its last charges to Louisiana in 1929? The leads are thin on this Fat Tuesday—and until the killer is unmasked, no one in Pelican is safe.

A simmering gumbo of a humorous whodunit, Mardi Gras Murder is the fourth piquant installment in USA Today bestselling author Ellen Byron’s award-winning Cajun Country mysteries.
And others are saying
The book is well-written with a steady pace and humor scattered throughout . . . Ellen Byron combines Southern charm, Mardi Gras, humor, a cast of quirky characters and a beguiling mystery into one rousing cozy mystery.
~The Avid Reader

Mardi Gras Murders by Ellen Byron is simply outstanding, all that a great cozy mystery should be and more.
~The Power of Words
And I thought
Don't let book 4 scare you off  if you haven't read the rest.
This is a great series and you can jump in at anytime.

You've only missed a little romance and alot of mystery but you can always go back.

Mardi Gras  Murder was a fun read.  I did have a bit of a hard time keeping the pageant contestants and moms straight but I finally got them all straight.
There are quite a few characters in the story/plot but they all have their own places in the story and everything comes together in the end.

The series takes place around an historical home turned museum.
The main character Maggie works at the museum as a tour guide.
But she is really a talented artist.  When it's realized that a painting in the museum has been painted over Maggie gets the job of doing the restoration.  While restoring the painting a 'can of worms' is opened and more drama/conflict.

All the while she is hoodwinked by her granny into judging the
Miss Gumbo pageant.  More drama/mystery begins when one of the other judges is murdered.

And so while the gumbo simmers the plot thickens until the climatic end when the real villain tries to take out not only Maggie but her best friend and Maggie's beau.  On a side note the ending reminded me of one of my favorite movies Romancing The Stone. You'll have to read it yourself to find out why!

If you enjoy a good great cozy you'll be hooked on this series.

I received a complimentary copy.

Recklessly Ever After by Heather Van Fleet-Lola's -Book Tour-Review

About the book
Gavin St. James
After the hell I’ve been through in the Marines–in life–there’s nothing I crave more than routine, stability, peace. Until McKenna Brewer walks into my life.
She’s impulsive, fiery, tempting as hell, and everything I don’t need. But when she offers me a night of no-strings-attached passion, I can’t resist.
When our night together has unexpected consequences, I can’t help but think this might be the perfect opportunity to show McKenna just how much I want her.
The only problem? She doesn’t do forevers. But forever is exactly what I need with her.
And I thought
I am not even sure where to start.  If you love a good romance you'll love this one.
Heather Van Fleet has given the reader some amazing characters.
These characters pull you into the story and you feel like your one of the group.
Reckless Ever After is book 3 in this  great series.  Although it took me a little bit to get everyone straight.  3 guys and their girls; like who went with who etc.  But it made no difference to me.
The series features the 3 guys Collin, Max and Gavin.  They meet in boot camp and became friends and pseudo brothers.  Recklessly Ever After is Gavin's love story.  It is sweet,
sexy, hot and well don't tell MaMa.  But my jazzy grandma after blushing a bit would be turning those pages while fanning herself and more than likely grinning a bit.
Yes there are bedroom scenes and a few other places where the mood strikes and it's a little discriptive but the story is a sweet romance.
As Gavin tries to get beyond his personal past and focus on his
new relationship with McKenna he fights PTSD and an emotional past.  While McKenna deals with feeling worthless and not good enough.
Gavin is a strong guy and faithful.  He commits to McKenna even when she is not able to commit.

I was glad to see the happily ever after but sad to see the story end.

The other characters drew me in and I'll be reading the first 2 books in the series as soon as I can.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites.

Waltz With Me Cowboy by Debra Holt-Goddess Fish Promo Tour-

About the book
Calla Rose returned home to McKenna Springs to help save her family's business... The Yellow Rose... a ninety-year old Texas dance hall. She also came home to heal. Being a victim and finding her trust level in men damaged, she is determined to succeed in this one thing for her family and nothing is going to deter her from doing just that. Now even a green-eyed cowboy/mayor with heart-stopping smiles and kisses that threaten to thaw the ice around her heart.

Ty Conners wasn't looking for love. He had simply stopped in to welcome the latest business owner to town. But coming face to face with Calla Rose would prove an unforgettable experience in more ways than one and send his heart into a tailspin. Never a man to not face a challenge head-on, he prepared to get past the barricades she had erected between herself and the male population. But it was easier said than done, and just when he's within reach of her heart, a lie brings memories of pain and distrust and Calla's heart may be out of his reach for

And I thought
Just a good sweet love story.  I enjoyed Waltz With Me Cowboy.
This was a really, really good book.
The characters are charming.  All of them.  From the main characters Calla and Ty to the Ty's friend and associate fireman
Reid.  To Darcy the diner owner.
Calla's sisters are just as charming and I am hoping that since they are single and 'available' that they'll be finding their own romance and happy ending also.
There's a little interest simmering between Reid the fireman and Calla's sister Jaz so I am expecting/hoping maybe for their story to be in the works.
There is a bit of conflict because Calla is reeling from a bad relationship causing her to not have any trust.  But Ty wins her heart in the end making Waltz With Me Cowboy a good 'ole romance.

I look forward to reading more from Debra Holt.

I received a complimentary copy.

Witness Betrayed by Linda Ladd-Silver Dagger Tour-Review/Giveaway

Picture
About the book

No Friends
Mardi Gras whips New Orleans’ French Quarter into a whirlpool of excess, color, booze, noise, motion. So the woman in the sights of Will Novak’s binoculars stands out. She’s bruised, barefoot, wearing a man’s raincoat. And she’s looking right at him.

No Faith
In a moment she’s fleeing into the crowd, but Novak knows she’s not gone for good. When she comes back, it’s with a gun to his head—and a story about crony politics, a crooked judge, a kidnapped whistleblower, and children in deadly danger. Novak can’t let this one slide.

No Fury
Through the grit of Houston’s underbelly to the grime below Beverly Hills’ glamor, a trickle of rot connects the powerful to the desperate and corrupts the men and women who are supposed to stand against it. Deceit is everywhere. If he’s going to do right, Novak is going to have to do it alone . . .

Read an excerpt
Below Will Novak’s balcony, the final day of Mardi Gras was in full swing. Crowds walked along the narrow width of Bourbon Street, laughing and talking and enjoying the famous New Orleans celebration. The French Quarter was alive with excitement and good cheer, which put police on alert for inevitable drunken altercations. That’s why Novak was watching. From where he sat in a chair drawn close to the wrought-iron rail, he could see several drunks stumbling around inside the crowd and others who looked well on their way to inebriation. His apartment was at the top end of Bourbon Street, so the riotous mass moved down the street in one direction like ants headed to a piece of pecan pie. Across the street, a jazz band was playing, filling the late night with the sounds of saxophone, piano, and bass fiddle.

Novak enjoyed the music, thinking the band was pretty good, as he swept his binoculars over the boisterous crowd as it moved along the ancient street with its old-fashioned lampposts and multitude of bars and novelty shops. The New Orleans Police Department had hired him on a temporary basis to spot probable troublemakers and report their locations to street cops. He’d been at it for a long time. Glancing at his watch, he found it was almost midnight. Eventually all the fun going on now would wane and the people would gradually disperse, but not yet. Maybe in another hour or two. He hoped so. He was dead tired.

Late February in south Louisiana was sometimes chilly; he had put on a leather jacket because of the nip in the air. The cold was not bothering anybody else, who kept warm by drinking beer and the sheer exhilaration of the moment. Unfortunately, nobody was calling it a night yet. Pushing, shoving, and hair-trigger, testosterone-fueled fistfights had been a regular occurrence all week long. At such occasions, Novak always watched first for the glint of steel. Knives were easily hidden under coats. This late hour was when either guns or knives were apt to be whipped out and innocent passersby hurt. Novak wasn’t the only observer on the street. There were many others just like him with bird’s-eye views of the action. He leaned back in his chair and adjusted his earpiece and microphone headset.

Loud shouts caught his attention, and he swung the glasses to a commotion starting up right across the street. A young woman stood high on a second-floor balcony opposite him. She looked as if she was smashed but didn’t know it yet. She was having a good old time, giggling and waving at the men below her on the street. A crowd had already gathered, mainly because she kept pulling up her sweatshirt and showing her bare breasts. The guys below hooted and clapped and sent forth all manner of encouragement. She obliged their fervor by whipping the sweatshirt off over her head and shimmying for anybody inclined to take a look.

Skin shows were not unusual during Mardi Gras week. The guy standing on the balcony with her didn’t appear to mind much, flinging off his own shirt in a show of support. His hairy chest didn’t garner as much interest. Both leaned over the railing, blowing kisses and tossing strings of colorful beads to their drunken admirers, which immediately caused fights for possession. People were just damn stupid sometimes, but no real harm was done with something like that. He called in the incident. A two-team unit was dispatched to break up the crowd below, and then they’d have to climb the narrow interior stairs to the woman’s apartment and order her to cover herself or go to jail. They had already warned the same woman earlier that evening. They might arrest her this time. Novak didn’t care much, one way or the other. He riveted his attention back on the street. Many people carried red Solo cups so they could guzzle beer while they walked. Mardi Gras had always been a big drunken party and a giant headache for the NOPD. Tonight was no exception.

Novak was working solo. He hadn’t been on a gig by himself in a while, not since he’d signed up with Claire Morgan’s private investigation firm. His partner was unavailable, off to Italy with her husband, Nicholas Black. They had been tied up in Rome for days now, fighting Italian government red tape as they tried to adopt a ten-year-old boy named Rico. His parents had been murdered during a particularly bad case that Novak had been involved in, and since it had wrapped up, Claire and Black had given the kid a good home. They wanted him to stay there.

They were due back soon, though, and Novak was glad. He missed Claire. She was quite a woman, all things considered: tall, natural blond, athletic, good-looking, and sexy without knowing it. More important, she was a damn good detective and a damn good friend. He could count on her when things got sticky. Compared to most of their cases, tonight’s gig was a breeze. Sitting in his own apartment watching people having fun was something he didn’t usually mind.

And I thought
What's the best thing about a book tour?  You get introduced to some great books/authors that you might not have found yet.
That's what happened here.

This is my first chance to read Linda Ladd's work.  And I will sure be looking for a chance to read more.

Will Novak is the kind of character that I really like love.
His background precedes him giving him the smarts, the discipline,
and the ability to solve crime and save the day.

His job in book 3 of the series is to find a missing teenager while watching his own back.

If you enjoy fast paced thrilling rides you'll want to check out this series.

I really enjoyed my introduction to the Will Novak series.
I will be reading the first two books soon.

Gun Kiss-Goddess Fish Promo Tour

About the book
The United States media is abuzz with news of the mysterious disappearance of Hollywood movie star, Goldie St. Helen.

Ex-Delta Force Blake Deco receives a tip from a Mexican friend that a drug lord, obsessed with the beautiful actress, is holding her captive in Tijuana.

With the help of a reluctant army friend, Blake mounts a daring rescue.

What he doesn’t expect is to have feelings for Goldie—or that a killer is hunting them.

And I thought
I actually liked this one better than I thought I would.  I am
not really sure why I didn't expect it to be as good as it was but.
I was happily surprised.
I was happily surprised this was a good clean book.  There are no bedroom scenes and no language.
There is the occasional foul mouth but most is in Spanish.
There is however alot for violence.  I lost count at all the dead bodies.  However even as bad as murder and violence can be
the author moves the story along and doesn't fill the pages with gore.
The main characters of the story are more than likeable.  I actually more than liked Blake and Goldie and hope to see more of them and I'll let the author know.
She ended the book with a question to the reader asking how much we liked Blake and Goldie and if we want to read more.
I am anxiously waiting for more.

Maybe a little suspense and romance for Jack?  (Blake's
best friend who helps him retrieve stolen artifacts and helps rescue Goldie)

The villain is that.  A villain.  He doesn't stop until; well I don't want to give that away.  He is a piece of work.  A stalker, kidnapper, drug lord that loves violence.

Gun Kiss was a great read.  I look forward to reading more.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

The Trouble With Billionaires-By Michelle Pennington

The Trouble with Billionaires (Southern Billionaires Book 1)
About the book
She's sworn to never fall for another rich man.
He's determined to change her mind.

Charlotte Mabry moves to a small town in Alabama, full of plans for a better life, especially for her son Taylor. Cash is short, but at least she's free from the crushing heartbreak of being married to a man who only cared about money. So even though Nate Haverton sends her pulses racing from the moment they meet, she refuses to let her heart lead her back into misery. Because he might be her son's t-ball coach, but he's also a billionaire.

Nate's drive and genius for solving problems have made him insanely wealthy, but not happy. With no time for a committed relationship, he tries to fill the emptiness inside by giving back to his home town. But then Charlotte moves in, and he knows that all this time he's been waiting for someone like her. She's beautiful, sweet, and strong...but adamant about keeping him at arms length.

When his good intentions go wrong and rumors fly in their small southern town, this may be one problem he can't solve—even though it's the one that matters most.

This is a sweet romance.
And I thought
A welcome change.  I couldn't put it down.  Turned the pages and finished in 1 day.
I really enjoy a sweet clean romance. I really enjoy sweet clean romances with a good story/plot.

Michelle Pennington gives the reader all of the above in this one.

The Trouble With Billionaires is a great read.  My emotions
went from interested to sad to see it end.

Although it did end in a great Happily Ever After which is normally what readers expect from a great romance.  That is what this reader got.

All the characters are charming.  Even the ones you tend not to like.  The wanna be girlfriend of the Billionaire.  The small town girl and her mom that are hoping to catch him.   The characters are well developed and add to the story.

And then of course Charlotte whats not to like.  She was sweet and a good mom with a few issues.  But she works through them.
Nate the Billionaire is a great guy that cares about other people.

A couple of  the sub characters like Sam (Nate's assistant) and
Lanelle (Charlotte's next door neighbor) are charming in their own right.  I wonder of Sam will end up with his own love story in a future book?

If you like a good sweet romance check this out.

I recommend for adults and teens both.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retails sites and Good Reads.
