Taken By The Highlander by Eliza Knight-A Novella-Review

Taken by the Highlander: Book 2.5 (Conquered Bride Series 6) by [Knight, Eliza]

About (provide by Amazon)
A week before Lady Rose Munro is to wed a neighboring laird, she is abducted on the road by a wicked and dangerously handsome stranger. Highland warrior, Malcolm Montgomery has been ordered by King Robert the Bruce to steal Rose and her son from the suspected traitor she is about to marry—gifting him with an ancient and much sought after dagger as payment. Rose shouldn’t trust her captor. Shouldn’t feel her body heat at his simple touch, or allow him to press his fervent lips to hers… Malcolm shouldn’t be seducing the woman he is sworn to protect. Shouldn’t desire her, for she’s not meant to be his… Succumbing to passion threatens them both, and falling in love is absolutely not an option.

And I thought
Admittedly I don't normally read Historical Romances.
I was offered a complimentary copy so I thought I would give it a whirl.
Taken By The Highlander was actually a really, really good
read.  I enjoyed every moment of the ride.
The main characters Lady Rose and Malcom are captivating.
Rose is a strong willed woman.  But she is vulenerable too.
And then there's the heart throb Highland Warrior Malcom.
He's on a mission for the King but quickly becomes enamored with the fair lady.
All the while they are being chased by the bad guys.
The story is action packed and very good.

There is one bedroom scene and no language.

If you enjoy Historical Romances check this one out.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on Good Reads and Amazon

A Little About The Author

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a princess…

Growing up, I was a proficient story teller, with most of my plots encompassing princesses and princes and dreams coming true. Now as an author, some of my stories are still about royalty, knights, duels, ladies, intrigue, betrayal. History fascinates me and I try to bring history back to life in each of my stories.

My favorite time periods are medieval, renaissance and Regency eras of Europe. Growing up, I was lucky to have grandparents who lived in Paris, so many a summer was spent exploring medieval ruins and historical sites. . .

About the book
The Certain Hope

(Hope Series #3)
By E. C. Jackson
Christian Contemporary Romance
Paperback & ebook, 318 Pages
December 5th 2018

Love at first sight. It’s every girl’s dream. But Tara Simpkins is finding out it’s not as easy as it seems. Is this truly the man God sent to be her husband, or is she just desperate to escape her loneliness? The recent loss of both parents has left her reeling, and close friends don’t think she’s in any position to make major life decisions. She and her new-found love are convinced they can live happily ever after in the home of their dreams. His family thinks he’s moving way too fast and might disappoint the kind-hearted woman he’s fallen head over heels for. And then there’s Leah. Leah is supposed to be part of his past, but what if she decides she’s his future? Tara’s match made in Heaven may be over before it truly begins.

Read an excerpt
Two days ago, he’d completed a life-changing roof job. When he’d driven to the residence to bid the work, he’d developed a crush on the house. It struck his fancy. He coveted the vintage three-story building. Every feature appealed to him. Wrought iron framed the porch, and gargoyles were etched into the bricks.
The house needed only a minor overhaul. He was the man for the task if he was able to buy the place. Luke enjoyed restoring old houses. Especially one he hoped to make his own. As he’d climbed the steps, he was assessing the fair market value.
Then Tara had opened the door.
Luke had fallen in love on sight.
Entrapped by her guileless smile, he’d eyed her ringless finger.
Something about her says she’s single.
Luke was hooked. There was no turning back.
And I thought
What a refreshing story. It is refreshing to get a chance to read a good clean sweet story.

 I enjoyed The Certain Hope.

The characters were 'real' and likeable.
I loved the small town feel.
The plot/storyline was good and I enjoyed how things worked out for the couple in the end; even though the went through some ups and downs.

I look forward to reading the other books in this series.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

I will also post on My Journey Back-The Journey Back on a future date.

Louisiana Latte by Rebecca Henry-Book Blitz/Review-Giveaway-Lola's Book Tours

Louisiana Latte

Louisiana Latte
By Rebecca Henry
Genre: Chick Lit Comedy
Age category: Adult
Release Date: 28 February 2019
About the book
Deb hadn’t flown in over 20 years. In 1989, at the age of 22, Deb was enrolled at Griffiss Airforce Base to become a commercial pilot. Somewhere between dating her yuppie fiancé and planning their wedding in Chicago, Deb developed claustrophobia, a fear of enclosed spaces. I blame the yuppie. Deb couldn’t get on a plane for love that day, but she could do it twenty years later for money. Money was worth dying for.

And I thought
A quick and fast little read.  There's a bit of humor for the reader as we follow the sisters on thier buisness trip.
The characters are funny.  The author provides some funny experiences.
There are a couple of  "F Bombs" so MaMa wouldn't be too impressed.

Chick Lit really isn't a Genre I normally read.
I am more into Suspense, Thrillers and Romance.

If your a fan of fun and funny Chick Lit you might want to check this one out.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites.

Chutes and Ladder by Marc Jedel-Great Escapes Tour-Character Guest Post/ Giveaway

Character Interview with Marty Golden, protagonist in
Chutes and Ladder: A Silicon Valley Mystery (Book 2)

I got a chance to ask a few questions of Marty Golden, protagonist in Chutes and Ladder and Uncle and Ants, both part of the Silicon Valley Mystery series.

Do you have a personal motto?
I try to live by words from my dad: “If the appetizers are good, eat them. You never know what’s for dinner.”

So, then what’s in your refrigerator right now?
Hmm, I’m actually not sure. I’ve been pretty swamped at work and trying to figure out who killed my friend. Could be anything in there. Normally I’d have healthy food. Well, mostly healthy. I mean, I’m nothing like my sister, Laney, but I try. And who knows what’s still in there from when my nieces’ stayed over a month ago.

What’s on your bedroom floor right now?
Carpeting. Is that the kind of answer you’re looking for? Doesn’t everyone have carpeting? I hate those fancy hotel rooms with hardwood floors. It’s way too cold to step on bare floors in the mornings. I guess you could leave slippers near the bed. Of course, then I’d have to answer this question with ‘hardwood floors’ or ‘slippers’. That’s too complicated. I like carpeting.

What do you consider your greatest accomplishment?
Well, my mother would say passing eleventh grade English. I was always better at math. We read a bunch of Shakespeare plays in eleventh grade and I didn’t get it. His plays weren’t funny and no one can understand them. The words ‘iambic pentameter’ still give me nightmares. All that said, my answer would be different from my mother’s. I’d say my greatest accomplishment happened just in the last month or so. I became partners with Sergeant Mace Jackson as we solved a few murders. Shh! I’m not supposed to tell people. He doesn’t want anyone to know about us working together. His actual words were “Don’t ever say that again.” But I’m sure he only said it like that because other cops were nearby.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?
Is this a trick question? I mean it feels like one. If I say there’s nothing, then I sound pompous and arrogant. But, if I say something real, does that count against me? Is someone keeping score?

What early event shaped you the most?
When my younger sister, Laney, managed to get me in trouble with our parents for the first time. I realized I had to up my game. It’s tough to compete against a cute three-year-old.

Complete the following sentence: “I am the kind of person who ...“
… hates completing sentences that start like this.

What is the one word you would use to define yourself? What is the one word others would use to define you?
I’d say ‘persistent’. I hate to give up when one more attempt might solve the problem. That’s usually a sign of a good engineer. Or detective! Others have called me ‘obsessive’. Yet, often a person’s biggest strengths are also their greatest weaknesses. I prefer ‘persistent’, it’s more positive.

What makes you laugh?
Me. I really crack myself up sometimes.

What annoys you?
Software bugs. And green salsa. What’s with that? Salsa should be red. Green seems cool and calming when you see it in a dish. Almost pretty even. But, watch out! It’s a big fake out. Green salsa is way spicy … I’m not going back to that place again.

What is the most embarrassing thing that ever happened to you?
What!? Hey, that’s not a fair question to spring on me. I was promised this was going to be a friendly interview, not probing about that humiliating time when I  …  Can we move on?

What do you feel most passionately about?
That seems a little personal, too. Are you going to publish this? What did my boss get me into? I thought this was a reward for my outstanding work. Can Laney help me with the answers, she’s in HR so she’s used to making execs sound smarter than they really are. Ok, you still want an answer? Well, I’m not sure I’m passionate about them, but I really like tacos. Just no green salsa.

How does it feel to be in a second book?
I don’t understand. What book?

Chutes and Ladder: A Silicon Valley Mystery. It’s a humorous murder mystery. Surely, you’ve heard of it?
No, sorry. Lately, I’ve been too busy to read. There has been this guy who seems to be watching me all the time and writing down whatever I’m saying. It’s not like I’m paranoid or anything. But, it’s as if he’s inside my head and knows what I’m thinking. He follows me around everywhere. Is it paranoid if it’s the truth?

Thanks, Marty for your time. Chutes and Ladder, book 2 in the Silicon Valley Mystery series, can be read standalone. It and Uncle and Ants are free to Kindle Unlimited readers and will have special pricing during the Great Escapes Tour so be sure to buy them today at Amazon. Pinot Red or Dead? by J.C. Eaton-Great Escapes Tour

About the book
There’s a lot of noir surrounding this rare pinot.
As the vineyards in Seneca Lake, New York, prepare for the seasonal “Deck the Halls Around the Lake” festivities, someone is determined to keep pinot noir off the wine list. Hijacked trucks and sabotaged ingredients have made it a hard-to-acquire vintage for the six local wineries—including Norrie Ellington’s Two Witches Winery.
The case of the stolen and spoiled wines gets stranger when Arnold Mowen, owner of the company distributing the wine, is found dead, the apparent victim of a hunting accident. As Norrie tries to find the connections between the pinot’s problems and Arnold’s death, she uncovers a conspiracy among many locals whose hatred for the wine distributor was bottled up for far too long . . .
And I thought
I enjoyed Pinot Red or Dead.  I kind of thought I would because the cover was just charming to me.
I was not disappointed.  I was left with some questions in the beginning because I've jumped into book 3 but mostly I was just
left wanting to read the previous books in the series.
The locale of a winery was intriguing to me.  And the food that is described left me wanting recipes at the end.
I love a book that includes recipes this one did not.
The characters are fun.  Norrie can't seem to help but sniff things out to find out who did it!
The early books 1 & 2 on on my TBR pile.

An Au Pair To Remember by Stephen Kaminski-Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
From the author of the award-winning Damon Lassard Dabbling Detective series comes the Male Housekeeper Mysteries, focusing on charming characters, snappy dialogue, eclectic murders, and cunning confidence schemes. To his mind, Cam Reddick has failed—as a husband, as a father, and as a professional. After recognizing that his vanilla credentials didn’t stack up in a big city brimming with overachievers and toiling in drudgery for half of a decade, an emotionally raw Cam returns to his childhood hometown—the quaint and quirky village of Rusted Bonnet, Michigan. He’s determined to resuscitate relationships marred by youthful immaturity, most importantly those with his ex-wife Kacey Gingerfield (who doubles as the village’s Deputy Chief of Police) and their first grader, Emma. Armed with striking looks and an endearing proclivity for mixing metaphors, but saddled by “momma’s boy” tendencies, Cam takes the helm of his mother’s housekeeping business—Peachy Kleen. Access to homes across the village facilitates Cam’s penchant for amateur sleuthing as Kacey’s aide-de-camp. Surrounded by Kacey, his sophisticated mother Darby, garrulous senior housekeeper Samantha, and recuse fish cum confidant Bait, Cam’s circuitous journeys to solving murders and unravelling complex cons hasten his struggle down the path of self-healing to self-respect. And there’s hope that—just maybe—he can rekindle the romance he once had with Kacey.

In An Au Pair to Remember, Cam’s plan for a quiet return to Rusted Bonnet is dashed when a beautiful German au pair, Greta Astor, is found dead in Dutch McRae’s foyer with all signs pointing to a hastily disassembled trip wire at the top of the stairs. When Kacey learns that Cam was cleaning the McRae home the previous afternoon, she confides to him that Chief Bernie Leftwich is set on arresting Dutch for the murder—either alone or in tandem with Greta’s bartender boyfriend. But she worries that Bernie’s been duped. And later, when his mother Darby becomes a suspect, Cam inserts himself into the investigation and stumbles through a series of ostensible incongruities—a thief swallowing a cache of stolen diamonds, a snack food distributor laundering money, and a Cash-for-Gold scam. Meanwhile, Peachy Kleen’s young African housekeeper has disappeared with one of the company vans. All the while, Cam finds himself flirting with his new neighbor and struggling with his complicated feelings for Kacey.

And I thought
I was intrigued by the title and the synopsis.  I was wondering how
this one would turn out and if I would 'like it'  and 'like' Cam.
I thought 'What is up with this guy?'  He cleans houses. . . hmm.

In fact he begins cleaning houses when he takes over his mothers
cleaning business.  He not only cleans but he runs the show.

Cam is a good guy trying to make up for a few mistakes.  Mainly
the mistake of marrying too young and then leaving town and  running from marriage and family.

He's now back in town and trying to make amends.

The ex Kacey is a big surprise.  The ex that forgives (mostly) and
allows Cam into his daughters life which helps Kacey out when there is a murder in town and she has to investigate and she needs a sitter.

There's alot going on in this plot and it took me awhile to read keeping up with the suspects and twists and turns.

Cam gets in a bit of hot water as he begins to do his own sleuthing with the help of his next door neighbor.

Is there some romance kindling there?  Or is he going to make a
second play for Kacey.  Hmmm...I'll not spill it.

I will share that Cam turns out to be quite the sleuth.

I am looking forward to the next installment in this series now that I realize I really like Cam.

If your looking for a good cozy mystery check this one out.

Death by Association by Paula Darnell-Great Escapes Tour-Reviw/Giveaway

About the book
DIY Diva Laurel McMillan learns that the high walls and guarded gates of Hawkeye Haven can’t protect her community. When Laurel takes her pampered, chocolate Labrador retriever, Bear, for an early morning walk, she finds her friend, security guard Bessie, bleeding and unconscious at her guardhouse post. If the attack on Bessie isn’t enough to set the residents’ nerves on edge, the murder of Victor Eberhart, the unpopular president of the powerful homeowners’ association, certainly does the trick. Despite teaching DIY classes and writing project instructions for her latest book, DIY for Dog Lovers, Laurel manages to squeeze in time for some DIY detective work. But as she gets closer to the truth, Victor’s killer would like nothing better than for the DIY Diva to take a dive.

And others are saying
Fun and interesting characters, an original setting in a gated community (Oh, the trials of an HOA), Bear the dog, and great writing all make DEATH BY ASSOCIATION a story worth reading, and a great debut for Darnell.
~Lisa Ks Book Reviews
Death by Association Paula Darnell is a different cozy, and it’s excellent.
~Baroness’ Book Trove
I loved the small town vibe of the gated community and our Protagonist Laurel is a great addition to the Cozy Family.
~A Wytch’s Book Review Blog
And I thought
A refreshing read.  A great cover that is attractive and beckons the reader to purchase and turn those pages!
I enjoyed Death by Association.  It's always fun to find a new
author and a new series.  When they are both great it makes for
a happy reader.
The characters are fun and kind of charming I like Laurel and who doesn't like a dog named Bear.
The setting is a little different and refreshing taking place inside a gated community all looks nice and cozy from the outside.

But inside lurks someone who 'did in' the president of the HOA.

The reader is kept on a nice little ride as Laurel sticks her nose in searches for clues.  Before Laurel can figure out who did it she must go through a whole of suspects.

I enjoyed the doggie recipes at the end.

For a new series this one promises to give us many more mysteries, a little humor and a bit of romance.

This was a super fun read.  I am looking forward to more!

I received a complimentary copy.

Moon Games by Shelly Frome

Category: Cozy Mystery, Amateur Female Sleuth, Murder Mystery, Supernatural, Small-town Police Procedural
Tour dates: Mar-Apr, 2019
ISBN: 978-1620061848
Available in Print and ebook, 264 pages

About the book
At the outset, Miranda Davis has nothing much going for her. The tourists are long gone by October in the quaint Carolina town of Black Mountain, her realty business is at a standstill, and her weekend stint managing the local tavern offers little to pull her out of the doldrums. When prominent church lady Cloris Raintree offers a stipend to look into the whereabouts of a missing coed, Miranda, along with her partner Harry (an unemployed features writer) agree.
But then it all backfires. A burly figure shambles down a mountain slope with a semi-conscious girl draped over his shoulder. Miranda’s attempts to uncover Cloris Raintree’s true motives become near impossible.  The local police keep stonewalling and Harry is of little help.
Tarot cards left on Cloris’ doorstep only exacerbate the situation. Growing more desperate over the captive girl’s fate, Miranda comes across a link to a cold case of arson and murder. With the advent of the dark of the moon, she is summoned to “Tower Time” as this twisty tale continues to unravel.
And I thought
A good page turning mystery that just might keep you up all night
at least until you've turned the last page.
For me a good book is one you can't put down.
Moon Games is just that.   There's a lot going on with some twists and turns that kept me reading it slowly to keep up with it all.

I enjoyed Moon Games and look forward to reading more from
the author.
