Hong Kong Central by Marilynn Larew-Book Tour/Giveaway

About the book
BLURB: Despite the fact that she quit the CIA, Lee Carruthers is in Hong Kong doing a little job for Sidney Worthington. He’s thinks something is wrong at Wong’s Antiques. Lee finds Henry Wong—just as he’s being kidnapped by the Chau Fong Triad. What does a Triad want with an antiquities dealer? That’s one of many questions, as Lee reunites with an old lover, is caught in the middle of burgeoning democracy demonstrations, and uncovers secrets that may once again upend her life.

NOTE: The book will be on sale for only $0.99 during the tour.

Read an excerpt
Hong Kong never sleeps. It was almost midnight, and the traffic was heavy, the neon signs flashing on and off, but Upper Lascar Row was quiet, the tables of tourist junk pulled inside the shops for the night. I walked softly in the shadows on the right side of the cobblestone street, looking for Wong Antiques among the red-lacquered shop fronts with signs in Chinese and English picked out in gold. The hairs on the back of my neck were prickling as if someone were watching me, and I jumped when a cat crossed the road. How could anybody be following me? I only got to Hong Kong three hours ago. In the dim light, I saw Wong Antiques halfway up the block on the left-hand side. The only light showing was in the back, a nightlight or an office. I had crossed the street to the shop and had rung the bell once when I heard footsteps coming up the street. I slipped back across the street and melted into the doorway of a shop. Someone turned the light on in the antique shop, and a thin man wearing a blue scholar’s robe walked to the door. Henry Wong? The footsteps I heard materialized as two large men in suits. They banged on the door, and the man backed up. They banged on the door again, and he opened it unwillingly. The men were Chinese, bulky in the way a fighter is bulky, probably showing tattoos under their white shirts.

And I thought
Hang on to your seat for the twists, turns and secrets that take you on a fast paced ride.

Another Five Minutes by Destiny Booze-Goddess Fish Promo-Book Blitz/Giveaway

Another Five Minutes cover
About the book (provided by Goddess Fish Promo)
Loving him is easy.

Fearing him is necessary.

Trusting him could be a deadly mistake.

Born deaf and living with an anxiety disorder, Brooke Hartley manages life in five-minute intervals. It’s all she can do to get out of bed each morning. She’s hidden inside her sister’s apartment for over a year.

Everything changes when Brooke’s sister goes missing. Her fragile world crashes. She is desperate to find her, and she’ll need help.

Haunted by a past he needs to forget, Scott Derrico keeps to himself until his gallery manager, Autumn Hartley, suddenly disappears. He is forced out of his isolation to help a woman that needs him with a terrifying intensity.

Scott tries to deny his attraction to Brooke. He doesn’t want to get emotionally involved but he craves her like nothing else. And, for her, he is a dark and sexy diversion to overcome her fear.

With a genuinely flawed and relatable heroine and a mysterious and protective hero, you won’t want this love story to end. You’ll beg…for another five minutes…

Read an excerpt
Scott stopped so he could stare at Autumn’s sister. He’d forgotten—again—that she was coming. Maybe if he’d remembered, he would have been more prepared.

Brooke was absolutely beautiful.

Her eyes met his, and he couldn’t look away. Those large, gorgeous eyes held him in place better than steel bars could have. He could stare at those eyes for the rest of the day, or week, or longer.

He suddenly remembered his manners. He’d told Autumn he would make this easier for her. He forced a polite smile, completely aware his behavior was not going unnoticed.

With a pointed stare, Autumn stepped toward him. “What’s wrong? And don’t answer where she can see you. She reads lips.”

He turned sideways, away from Brooke, opened his mouth to respond, and shrugged instead.

Did you change your mind about her working here?”

No, of course not.”

Okay. So why are you looking at her like that?”

Again, he shrugged. What was he supposed to say? Sorry, but I don’t want to have the hots for your sister. You should have told me she was so beautiful.

Oh,” she said, her eyebrows lifting.

Oh? What the heck did she mean by that?

You realize I have a picture of my sister on my desk, right? It shouldn’t be a surprise to you that she’s pretty.”

He hadn’t noticed the picture. Obviously. And, she was way more than pretty.

Her look of surprise suddenly changed. “Scott, don’t you dare make a move on my sister. I mean it. That’s the last thing she needs right now.”

That won’t happen.”

Good. Now, please turn back around and say hello. I want her to feel welcome.”

Right. He turned back, shoved his hair away from his face, and instantly went right on staring. “Hey. Welcome to the team.”

Was that his voice? It was much softer than normal. He had to snap out of this.

She gave such a small smile that he wondered if he imagined it.

Had she understood what he’d said? Maybe he hadn’t spoken slowly enough?

He looked back to Autumn to make sure she wasn’t still glaring at him. She was. Oh hell. He walked away to his studio. This day was not going to get any easier.

And I thought

Sipped by C.T. Collier-Great Escapes Tour-Review-Giveaway

I have not read this book Yet!
My review is below!

About the book
After a rough semester, Professor Lyssa Pennington just wants to post her grades and join her husband, Kyle, in Cornwall for Christmas. First, though, she’s expected to host an elegant dinner for Emile Duval, the soon-to-be Chair of Languages at Tompkins College.
Too bad no one told Lyssa murder is on the menu. And, by the way, Emile Duval is an imposter.
Who is he really? And who wanted him dead? Without those answers, the Penningtons can kiss Christmas in Cornwall goodbye.

Read an excerpt
Trooper Moran tapped his pen. “Let’s talk about the person you saw leaving the kitchen, the one who delivered the wine. Do you remember her coat?”
“I was fixated on her gloves.”
“Cloth coat? Down?”
“It was the kind of dark winter parka anyone would wear on a cold night, but that doesn’t tally with the classy gloves.”
“Did you see the woman’s footwear?”
“No, just the gloved hand.”
He chuckled. “Tell me about the glove.”
Lyssa’s cheeks were hot. “I was memorizing every detail to tell Kyle, because I really really wanted a pair just like them for Christmas.”
He shook his head.
“So I’m not a trained detective,” she joked. “I noticed some other detail, but I can’t grab hold of it right now.”
“Her head popping back for a look?”

Lyssa shook her head. “This woman didn’t second-guess anything. She’d worked out every detail.”
And I thought
A good cozy read.  I enjoyed the Pennington's.  They are a clever and fun couple.
Sipped is the 3rd book in the series and was easy to read and catch
on to the story and plot.  There was no read to prior books.
I wasn't so much a fan of the academia (gasp) aspect but that is just me.  My sister would have loved it.
The story/plot is well written and keeps the reader interested through the twists and turns and locale(s).
The author does an excellent job of taking some hard topics such as alcoholism and a few other adult topics and handles them in a classy way.
For me though I just didn't enjoy the plot.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

On a Tuesday by Whitney G. -Indie Sage Promo. Book Blitz-Giveaway

About the book
We met on a Tuesday.
Became best friends, then lovers, on a Tuesday.
And everything fell apart on a Tuesday…
Charlotte Taylor has three automatic strikes in my book: 1) She hates me. She also claims that I’m a “domineering jerk with a huge, overbearing ego.” (I do have something huge. It’s not my ego, though.) 2) She takes our mandatory tutoring sessions way too seriously. 3) She’s sexy as hell…And a virgin.
At least, those were her strikes before our study sessions started lasting longer than they were supposed to. Until one innocent kiss became a hundred dirty ones, and until she became the first woman I ever fell hard for.
Our future together after graduation was supposed to be set:
Professional football for me. Law school for her.
But she left me at the end of the semester with no explanation, and then she completely disappeared from my life.
Until tonight.
We met on a Tuesday.
Became everything, then nothing, on a Tuesday.
And now it’s seven years later, on a Tuesday…
*This is a full length second chance romance, inspired by Adele’s “When We Were Young”

And I thought
It took me a while to like the narration in this story.  The
story is told from Grayson and Charlotte's perspective.  What bogged me down was the Graysons narrator talking like a girl. It was just off and weird.
As I got into the story I ended up being more into what was going on than the narration.
This was a good love story.  I enjoyed the characters.
Grayson and Charlotte are loveable.  Charlotte's friends Nidera
and Eric are funny and great bestie's.  Nidera is a great friend throughout the story.  The dialogue between Charlotte and Nidera
is funny.
And then there's Kyle Grayson's friend who is a bit of an ass.
I was left wondering if he might be the culprit that causes trouble for Grayson and Charlotte but he is a good guy underneath it all.

The story goes back and forth between present day and all the way to the beginning when Grayson and Charlotte met.  Each telling their side of the stories.
In the beginning Charlotte isn't interested in Grayson at least she doesn't want to be.  She is standoffish and takes weeks to give him her number.
Grayson on the other is charming and persistent.  Which is actually why Charlotte is unsure of his real intentions.  He is just so good and nice and romantic that it makes her wonder if he is playing games.
Charlotte is also cautious of the long term because of the lifestyle that Grayson will lead after college when he plays pro-ball.
There are some really hot bedroom scenes between the two of the them.
This is one I wouldn't even tell mama about and my granny hmm not sure.  The scenes are sexy and explicit but in their way sweet.
You decide.
I enjoyed the book/plot and the characters so much that I will
be looking for more chances to read anything in this series.
I was left wondering if there will be future installment featuring Kyle or Nidera.

I received a complimentary Audible copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

The Girl On Camera by Morgan Dun-Campbell-Lola Book Tours-Reviews/Giveaway

The Girl on Camera

About the book
Blurb:
Reality TV is about to get real…
“Are you ready to win the heart of the nation? Compete with seven other contestants for the cash prize? Change your life forever?”
Twenty-six-year old Rory Stevens is thrilled to be selected as one of eight contestants for new reality show: The Retreat.
However, on the second day of filming – during a televised broadcast from the show’s host – all power shuts off with no explanation: leaving the contestants, quite literally, in the dark.
Completely stranded, it is now up to Rory and her seven companions to figure out what is happening.
And then one of them disappears…
And I am thinking
This one will keep you turning the pages!  In fact that is what I am doing.  Still turning the pages and unable to put it down!  Check back for my review.
You can read an excerpt right here . .  .
We’re in a clearing, and beyond this car, three others are parked a few feet away, to the right of us. Next to them is a white van with the back doors open. Stood by the van is Suzie, talking to a man I don’t recognise. Another guy stood by one of the cars holds a fluffy sound mic. A camera sits on top of the roof of one of the cars, and a tripod has been set up by the van.
Directly in front of me, about twenty yards away, a grey stone wall runs maybe fifty feet along, twenty feet high. In the centre, two dark oak doors as high as the wall. Above them, a metal plaque reads:
The Retreat
Lined against the wall are seven people. The other contestants? A woman is clipping a tiny device to the guy stood at the front – presumably a mic.
I’ll have my very own, too. So everyone I’ve ever known can hear me utter my first words on national television.
Suzie spots me and comes over. ‘You Ok, Rory? You’re looking pale. It’s perfectly natural to be feeling nervous. Want me to fetch you some water?’ Now that she mentions it, I am feeling light-headed. Tiny green spots momentarily cloud my vision.
‘Water would be great, thank you Suzie,’ I say in a weak voice. She nods, and calls to the guy with the fluffy mic. A moment later, he hurries over, carrying a water bottle from a large cooler they have positioned next to the van. I drink half of it all at once.
‘Better?’ Suzie asks. I nod. The mic guy holds out his hand for the bottle, and takes it from me, before rushing off again. ‘Everyone else has arrived,’ Suzie continues, ‘so we’re just getting everything set up before the official launch, which is…’ she glances at her watch, ‘in just over an hour. Look – why don’t I introduce to the others? It might help you relax. After all, you’ll be supporting each other throughout this.’ Even in my dizzy state, I sense this is nothing more than a comforting lie. Reality contestants aren’t supposed to get along, because that doesn’t equal entertainment, right?
Suzie takes a step back and holds out her hand. ‘So, come on. Hmm?’ I take it and she leads me over, like it’s my first day at school.
Standing at the front of the queue, so closest to the doors, is a tall tanned man of maybe six foot four, with huge shoulders and a square jaw. He wears a long brown coat which looks designer, a wrap-around blue and black chequered scarf, plain jeans, black brogues. A silver wristwatch flashes on his right arm, which again appears designer. His turquoise eyes are embedded in fine lines that add character.
He catches my eye and smiles, as if to say, everything’s alright. I’m here now, and you can trust me.
‘This is Freddie,’ says Suzie. He laughs: a deep, booming sound.
‘Oh, Suzie,’ he says, placing a huge arm around her shoulder delicately, a friendly bear handling a human with care. It’s as though they’re reunited friends who go decades back. Suzie can’t stop herself from dropping her professional demeanour – straight back, hands clasped, tight set poker face – and joining in with his infectious laugh.
‘How many times Suzie,’ he squeezes her shoulders playfully, her eyes sparkle, indulging him. ‘It’s Nice Guy Freddie. That’s what my friends call me, anyway,’ he says to me, and I’m shell-shocked for a moment to be the centre of his focus, like coming face to face with a treasured celebrity.
‘Nice Guy Freddie,’ I repeat.
‘Nice Guy Freddie,’ he says, one slow nod. ‘It’s a little pun, from my favourite Tarantino movie,’ he explains, one hand in the air, palm facing upwards, spread fingers, the other arm still looped around Suzie. ‘Such a talented director,’ he says, as though projecting to a theatre audience. ‘And I seem to gel well with the people in my life,’ he looks to Suzie, gazing at her as though they’re star-crossed lovers, while she gazes back, ‘absolute superstars, every last one of ’em – and the nickname stuck. So,’ he unloops himself from Suzie. She appears dazed now that he’s broken the spell by focusing attention elsewhere, as though a hypnotist has just awoken her from a trance. She looks embarrassed to have been sucked in so easily when she’s supposed to be in charge.
Though it’s pretty clear whose little finger everyone is wrapped around.
‘Nice Guy Freddie at your service,’ he says to me, chest puffed out, huge arm outstretched. I take his hand and his warm grip is firm and reassuring, the true definition of a hearty handshake. ‘Looks like you took a turn for the worse back there, hmm?’
‘It’s just nerves,’ I quickly explain.
‘Now now, chin up,’ Freddie says, and actually – to my alarm – reaches forward and strokes the underside of my chin with his forefinger. ‘I promise to take some of the heat. I’m quite the performer.’ For a moment, his face is completely straight and I feel a chill. Then he’s laughing heartily, and looks from me to Suzie and back again. ‘I should think so, after three leading theatre roles.’
‘Do I stand behind F – Nice Guy Freddie?’ I ask Suzie. She shakes her head.
‘No, I think it’s better with Mariah behind him. Oh – Mariah, Rory, Rory, Mariah,’ Suzie gestures back and forth between me and this Mariah character stood behind Freddie, donned in a white fur coat and black leather trousers, a black ribbon choker around her neck, in the centre of which lies a silver spider pendant.
She’s striking in the sense that she borders between gorgeous and bizarre. Her huge bee-stung pout, presumably cosmetically enhanced, seems a touch too big. Her black blocky brows are almost perfectly arched, just a touch too pronounced. Her ice blue eyes, like two frosty gems staring out from her face, are entrancing, but somehow make her appear inhuman. Her age is impossible to guess: she’s either an older looking girl, or a younger looking woman. Just turned twenty or nearing fourty?
If Freddie’s like a ray of sunshine, she’s the storm cloud looming behind, ready to rain on this parade. Even so, I give her a tight-lipped smile.
‘Hey Mariah, looking forward to living with you for the next few days.’
‘Yyyeah,’ she says, drawing out the syllable, before sucking air through her teeth, and looking me up and down, with a condescending fixed look. I lower my hand. ‘I’m not really one for the gushy introductions. No offence but, I never say pleasure to meet you. ’Cause how do I know yet? For all I know, you’re a complete bitch.’ She examines her nails and shrugs. ‘I’m just keeping it real.’

Her Fear-Shelley Shepard Gray-Book Review

About the book
Shelley Shepard Gray’s latest novel of suspense in her Amish of Hart County series, an EMT falls for a woman with ties to an Amish community where people are dying similar, suspicious deaths.
Sadie Detweiler never imagined she’d move to Kentucky, yet here she is: a pregnant, unmarried Amish girl banished by unforgiving parents to live with kin she barely knows. The men are gruff and her cousins are secretive. Worst of all, elderly matriarch Verba becomes mysteriously ill shortly after Sadie moves in. When EMT Noah Freeman arrives, Sadie immediately notices he’s unlike any other Amish man she’s met. Noah is warm, confident, and has an easy way with practically everyone in the community, both Amish and English. Though Sadie is drawn to him, she has little hope he will reciprocate her feelings once he learns she’s with child.
Noah can’t understand how a girl as sweet and lovely as Sadie ended up sleeping on a cot in Verba Stauffer’s kitchen. He also senses Sadie is terrified of something. Concerned, he checks up on her. Eventually they strike up a friendship and soon their attraction is undeniable. When Verba later dies at the hospital and her death is followed by two others, Noah’s boss wants him to dig around the Amish community for clues. He agrees—for Sadie’s sake—because only the truth will keep her safe and by his side.

And I thought
This has been a great series to read.  I have had the chance to read each title and I have to say each one was better than the previous.
And, this one was the best.
The story/plot kept me interested and turning the pages.  I was
finished in just a few hours.
It really didn't take me long at all to figure it out but that didn't keep me from enjoying this great read.
I think what I liked the best is a couple of the characters from previous books made cameo appearances.  I liked that and it brought their stories back to my memory.
Gray does a great job of bringing some interesting topics to a place, locale and group of people that you wouldn't expect.
No one really expects stalking, abuse, murder and things of that nature to happen around a community much less around an
Amish community.
The romance is always sweet and clean making this book and all the previous ones suitable for any audience.  Parents might be cautious though because some of the topics in the previous books and actually this one too (Sadie is pregnant out of wedlock) might be too adult for younger readers.

I enjoyed this series and look forward to reading more books by
Shelley Shepard Gray.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on Good Reads and Retail Sites.
This review will also appear on My Journey Back-The Journey Back blog.

Cover thoughts

If your a regular visitor to my blog you'll notice ocassionally
I share my thoughts on the cover of the book I am reviewing.
As with my reviews my thoughts on the covers are honest.  I share
what feelings I had when reading and how and if the cover of the book caught my attention.
What has caught my attention about all the books in this series
with the exception of  The Gift is that they all look the same.
If I was considering purchasing any of these books I would really have to think about it.
I know sometimes I'll grab a book just based on the cover.  Especially if it is an author I know.
But with this series I would wonder have I read this one before?
To me the covers are so close to the same that it may be confusing.
With that said.  I did love this series.  And I really enjoyed each book.
Don't judge a book by it's cover.
