About the book
When Sydney Bonner overhears a fellow mah jongg player arguing on the phone with her husband, she realizes the couple’s “perfect marriage” isn’t all it appears to be. A few days later, the husband is found dead, his head bashed in. Fearing she’ll be considered the most likely suspect, the widow prevails upon Sydney and her three friends—Marianne, Kat and Micki—to find out who really killed him.
Though none of these four fun-loving, take-charge retirees has any training as detectives, the women agree to launch a secret investigation. As they dig under the happy veneer of their community’s social life, they find more than enough suspects, from shady ladies to resentful golf buddies, to keep them looking over their shoulders.
Could the murderer be lurking among the talent in a chaotic production put on by Sydney’s husband, who will do anything to keep busy in retirement? Could the sheriff, who may have more than a professional interest in chanteuse Kat, end up pinning the crime on the women instead? Each discovery during their investigations and their weekly mah jongg game keeps them running as they close in on the killer—but the killer may also be closing in on them.
And I thought
A fun read. I enjoyed the chance to get into this series in the beginning.
Syd and her friends are fun and funny. The are full of spirit
and all very spry even though they are all very mature women!
When Syd and her closest friends are asked to help their
fellow mah jongg player they are apprehnsive at first.
They have to think about getting involved since Olivia isn't really one of their favorite people. But when they realize she really needs their help they step up to the challenge and start poking into things.
Keeping their little snooping quiet they nose around town trying to figure out who could have been the one to knock Olivia over the head.
It doesn't take long to find out that good ole Mr. Schwimmer had a few skeletons in the closet and the suspects started lining up.
From golf buddies, to fellow church members to some female companions Mr. Schwimmer had seemed to make quite a few people more than a little mad. But who was made enough to
kill him?
I enjoyed most of the characters. I hate to admit I didn't really
care for Syd's husband. He was a bit of a whiner. Complaining a little too much about Syd's activities and then expecting her to help him out when gets in over his head with a fund raiser.
Syd's friend Kat was a fun character and a great 'snooper' she could easily get suspects and 'persons of interest' to spill the beans.
A bit to the chagrin of the local law who has a romantic interest in her.
Craks In A Marriage was a fun fast cozy read. The story
is all wrapped up nicely and everyone is glad that the murder is
solved so everyone could get back to their quiet peaceful lives.
And Syd last parting words are "Our investigation days are over. Aren't they?"
Watch for Bamboozled book 2 in the series!
I received a complimentary copy.
This review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

Thank you so much for hosting me today and for the kind review. This is my first venture with cozy mysteries and I had a blast developing these characters.
