About the book
Anastasia Pollack’s son Alex is dating Sophie Lambert, the new kid in town. For their community service project, the high school seniors have chosen to raise money for the county food bank. Anastasia taps her craft industry contacts to donate materials for the students to make Christmas ornaments they’ll sell at the town’s annual Holiday Crafts Fair.
At the fair Anastasia meets Sophie’s father, Shane Lambert, who strikes her as a man with secrets. She also notices a woman eavesdropping on their conversation. Later that evening when the woman turns up dead, Sophie’s father is arrested for her murder.
Alex and Sophie beg Anastasia to find the real killer, but Anastasia has had her fill of dead bodies. She’s also not convinced of Shane’s innocence. Besides, she’s promised younger son Nick she’ll stop risking her life. But how can she say no to Alex?

When Life Hands You Lemons…
…most people
would make lemonade. With the way my life has gone since author Lois Winston
got hold of it, I definitely need something stronger. My name is Anastasia
Pollack, and I’m the (reluctant) amateur sleuth of the eponymous Anastasia
Pollack Crafting Mysteries.
Before I
somehow found myself knee-deep in murder and mayhem, I led a typical
middle-class life as the working mom to two teenage boys. I’m the crafts editor
at a women’s magazine, the kind you find at the supermarket checkout line. My
husband Karl was an auto parts salesman.
We lived in a
modest rancher in an upscale New Jersey suburb with Ralph, the
Shakespeare-quoting parrot I’d inherited from my Great-aunt Penelope
Periwinkle. Occasionally my mother stayed with us between husbands. We saw my
communist mother-in-law only when absolutely necessary.
Life was
good—until Lois Winston set her sights on me and turned my world upside-down
and inside out. She decided Karl was a closet gambler. Before Assault With a Deadly Glue Gun, the
first book in the series, even opened, she had Karl keel over dead in Las
Vegas–but not until he’d blown through all our savings and run up hundreds of
thousands of dollars worth of debt, some to a Mafia loan shark.
You’d think
that was bad enough, but Lois’s devious plot also involved moving my
mother-in-law in with us while she recuperated from a hit-and-run. Now I’m
stuck with her permanently. Still not satisfied, Lois decided to add murder to
the mix. Suddenly dead bodies keep showing up in my life—and they’re not dying
of natural causes.
Seven books
and three novellas later, I’m still coming to terms with my new normal. It
hasn’t been easy. Lois did throw me a carrot, though. She introduced me to
photojournalist Zachary Barnes. But Lois being Lois, she couldn’t leave it at
that. You see, Zack may or may not also be a government operative. And that
adds another layer of worry to my already stress-filled life.
So when life
hands me lemons, pass the vodka—please!
