Winter Frost by Lauren Carr-Book Review-I Read Book Tours

Winter Frost by Lauren Carr
About the book

It all started with a chance encounter in the city with Blair, his late wife.

Chris Matheson and the Geezer Squad, working under the guise of a book club, dig into the events surrounding his late wife’s supposed death halfway around the globe. A state department employee shoots himself in the back three times. A CIA operative goes missing. A woman is targeted by an international assassin three years after being declared dead in a terrorist attack overseas.

Nothing is as it seems.

In his most personal cold case, Chris fights to uncover why the state department told him that Blair, the mother of his children, had been killed when she was alive. What had she uncovered in Switzerland that has made her a target? Who terrified her so much that she had gone into hiding and why are they now after him?

And I thought
They just keep getting better and better!  I admit I am a fan of author Lauren Carr.
She has not written a book that I haven’t loved.  Each and everyone is a page turner.

One of the things I like best about how she presents her books is that she includes a
Cast of characters at the beginning.  Which is a huge help because each book
has a lot going on and a lot of characters.   As a fan I know all the regular characters so I don't get
any confused but it's fun to read the cast.  And is helpful with the new characters.

The characters draw you in along with the plot.

Another thing I really like is how she crosses over the characters from the different series.

In this one Murphy and Triston from the Thorny Rose series are a huge part of the story.
Jessica Murphy’s wife and their dogs make a cameo appearance as well.

The story takes place when Chris and his girlfriend go into the city for a
weekend away.  But before than can even manage dinner Chris see’s his wife
who is supposed to be dead.  But sure enough she is alive and well and running for
her life!

The suspense starts from page one and continues on a fast and furious ride to the
end!

There were a couple of gasps along the way.  And a “No she didn’t do that”
referencing the author….and thankfully she didn’t ‘Whew’!  Giving nothing away
here….so if you wanna know exactly what made me ‘Gasp’ and ‘What made me
ask the question you’ll have to read Winter Thaw.  I promise you will love it
And you’ll be surprised and shocked as much as I was.

Winter Frost is a super fun and fast paced ride.  It is super clean.  No bedroom
Scenes and no language.

I received a complimentary copy.

And others are saying
"But nothing interests me more than having The Geezer Squad go into action. For those who haven't previously read their entry into this series, this is a group of retired professionals, from various agencies, who have formed a "book club." Yes, they meet to study true crime...which are actually cold or, in this case, recent crimes. They are amazing as they use their professional skills, expertise, and contacts, to move each case forward to completion... " 5-Star Review of WINTER FROST by Glenda Bixler, Book Reader's Heaven

"Winter Frost is the second installment in Lauren Carr's Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery Series. It features an engaging cast of characters and a gripping plot.

"Single father and retired FBI Agent Chris Matheson recently joined the Geezer Squad, a group of retired experts acting as a book club who help solve cold case files. This time around, they find themselves investigating a member of their own.

"Chris’ wife, Blair, passed away a few years ago while on assignment. He and his three daughters are trying to move on as best as they can when, a few years later, Chris sees his late wife at the train station. She yells out a cryptic message at him before disappearing again. Now begins the hunt for Blair and the truth about her alleged death.

"Chris is a likable character, a tough guy with a tender heart that goes very soft at times, especially with his daughters. The members of the Geezer Squad are hilarious; made up of a retired set of experts with a broad and impressive skill set, they form a club that no one wants to mess with. The cast of secondary characters adds to the story line with personality and spirit, leaving space for not a single dull moment. The air of mystery surrounding Murphy makes him particularly interesting.

"Filled with twists and turns, Winter Frost reads perfectly well as a stand-alone, although it is part of a series. The author creates tension and suspense throughout by keeping the reader guessing; she keeps readers engaged with well fleshed out characters and a dash of humor. Sterling, the retired German Shepherd police dog turned card shark, is a new favorite. As the story flows, the truth unfolds, layer by layer, leading to a satisfying conclusion.

"Winter Frost was an entertaining, at times humorous read with suspense, some surprises, and even cute animals in the mix." 4-Star Review of WINTER FROST by The iRead Review
