A Tangle In The Vines by Anna Celeste Burke-Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
The curtain may fall on the Calla Lily Players’ first season unless Lily and Austin can find a killer on the loose in California’s wine country. Torrential rains threaten to put a damper on The Calla Lily Players’ first outdoor theater production. When the ground suddenly shifts, buried secrets revealed amid the tangled vines put the spotlight on murder. As Lily and Austin dig deeper into the mystery, the drama unfolds onstage and off. The race is on to find a killer before opening night.

And I thought
This reader was swept away in the first couple of pages.  As the mystery unfolds and the characters are introduced there really does seem to be not only torrential rains and mystery but actually a floodgate is opened of characters.  To the authors credit she does provide the reader with a cast of characters at the beginning of the book.  Which ends up being helpful as there are alot of
characters running around.

Although A Tangle In The Vines is presented as a stand alone this reader felt a better connection to the characters would have been established from reading book 1 Lilly's Homecoming

The main character Lily and her 'sort of' boyfriend Austin (he is a Marshall) are instantly likeable.  Along with Lily's troupe of old friends from the California days and her aunts friend Judy are all fun and colorful characters.

Then there is the addition of Billy the young boy who shows up on the property toting his fathers gun.  When it is discovered that Billy's home is not safe he ends up with Lily and the group.  I enjoyed the way Billy numbered the Grandma's and called Lily #1 mom.

I enjoyed the recipes at the end as my mouth was watering from the mention of all the yummy cookies they fed Billy and the police and investigators that kept showing up.

A Tangle In The Vines was a fun read.  I can't help but say that through the middle it seemed to bog down a bit and read a little slow.  In the end everything is wrapped up, the mystery is solved and Lily and Austin become a 'real' couple.   There isn't a cliff-hanger per se but the reader is left expectantly waiting for the book 3 and the holiday play and festivities that are planned.

I received a complimentary copy.
