Dragon's Shadow by Allison Morse-Goddess Fish Promo-Review/Giveaway

About the book
Royal twins ripped apart at birth become reluctant champions of good and evil.
Kylie, a teenage science geek, has no faith in people. Instead, she relies on what she trusts the most, the facts––what she can see, touch, and hear but never feel. With enough pain to deal with in her own world, she is thrust into another––a kingdom at war whose strange inhabitants fear one thing the most––the return of the dragon. All of this is illogical to Kylie, but even more so, when she discovers she belongs there.
Her brother, Prince Jarlon, journeys to kill the dragon who has laid waste to his kingdom. His only hope for destroying the beast is help from his sister, whom he has never met. Will their paths cross before the beast’s malevolence infects Kylie and turns her into his creature or will Jarlon have to destroy her, too?

Read an excerpt
“Hey, Kylie, you’ve been in the water for over an hour. Get out now! Something’s wrong.”
She ignored him. Her swim couldn’t have been an hour. She had just entered the pond. Propelling herself down again, she thought it silly that she’d always been ruled by her brain and had been clumsy and disconnected from her body. Always being the last person to be picked for a team, but not now. Sensations of water, skin, and muscle breathing together as one, consumed her usually dominant analytical mind. The deeper she dived, the more the energy intensified. The force seemed to coalesce into substance, as if there were a presence pulling her toward him.
“Welcome, little one. You have found one of my sources of power,” said the male Voice that had led her to the village. But this time he surrounded her. His deep timbre vibrated with the energy of the pond. “You have part of me inside you, so you, too, have access to this power.”
With each stroke, she felt the caress of water and fire.
“All you have to do is take it in,” the Voice said. “I had planned to wait until you reached the cave, but why? My power’s nice, isn’t it?”
She heard the delight in his voice. His words tickled inside her the same way bubbles in the water brushed her skin. She swam deeper.
“Yes,” the Voice cooed. “Join me. Release and meld into it. Don't let it just tease you on the outside. Open your mouth. Let me fill you up on the inside.”
It seemed so simple, just open her mouth. But her brain snapped back into control and would have none of it. She would die if she did that. The Voice didn’t offer joining, but drowning.

Read an excerpt
The Great American Scavenger Hunt
Day 1

Storm stood on the stairs of the US Capitol Building, and the weight of his travel pack dug into his shoulders. Before sunrise, all the contestants were bussed seven miles over from their hotel in Arlington. A few other contestants started conversations, and his minimal replies made clear he wasn’t here to make friends. Colleen ignored him, which was good. Her mere presence provided enough distraction.

He had a good view of her down at the other end of the line. How could she stand upright underneath the weight of her pack? The thing looked as heavy as her. He’d bought his at the secondhand shop in Liberty Ridge. Colleen probably shopped at a high-end outdoor store that carried the latest gizmos and gadgets. Her pack and its contents might cost the equivalent of a small country’s GDP.

When he’d seen her yesterday at lunch, he almost didn’t recognize her. Her short hair looked amazingly sexy. This morning, she wore a tousled look, like she’d just rolled out of bed, which she likely had being that the clock just struck seven-thirty am.

The host of the show, Burt Blackstone, walked before the assembled group. He stood medium height, with a trim build, and a head of closely cropped, salt-and-pepper hair. Today, Burt wore khaki shorts and an orange button-up top. “I want to wish every one of you good luck. We’ll start filming shortly. I’ll go over the rules once more, mostly for the audience’s sake. Then, I’ll give the signal, and you’ll be off.”

A low murmur drifted over the group.

Storm shifted the weight of his travel pack and mentally walked through his plan. He held a red envelope, which was identical to the ones given to the other contestants. Let’s rock and roll.

And I thought
I've enjoyed this series and Laurie Winter.  After reading the
synopsis I thought this would be a good romance and an interesting read.
It was both.
The characters each have their own personnel struggles and then when the end up keeping each against each other to win the money they need for the own personal concerns things get 'dicey'.

Winner Takes All is a page turner that keeps you interested all the way to the end.
How is it going to turn out?  Will there be a happy ending?

I really enjoyed these characters.  This was really a great read.
I am looking forward to reading more.

Murder Of Ravens by Patty Jager-Character Guest Post-Great Escapes Tour/Giveaway

About the book
The ancient Indian art of tracking is his greatest strength…
And also his biggest weakness.
Fish and Wildlife State Trooper Gabriel Hawke believes he’s chasing poachers.
However, he comes upon a wildlife biologist standing over a body that is wearing a wolf tracking collar.
He uses master tracker skills taught to him by his Nez Perce grandfather to follow clues on the mountain. Paper trails and the whisper of rumors in the rural community where he works, draws Hawke to a conclusion that he finds bitter.
Arresting his brother-in-law ended his marriage, could solving this murder ruin a friendship?

And others are saying
I loved the story. Halfway through the book, the identity of the perp is revealed but the ending turned out to be quite surprising.
~The Book Decoder
Murder of Ravens is a fresh and unique mystery by new-to-me author Paty Jager. This traditional mystery, book #1 in a new series, has good character depth and features a strong Native American character.
~The Power of Words
MURDER OF RAVENS is an intriguing mystery set in Eastern Oregon, in the mountains, along the rivers, and in small close-knit communities (read, everybody, knows everybody else’s business).
~Mallory Heart’s Cozies
The blend of nature tracking, clues, and the animals makes for a fascinating mystery that is hard to put down.
~Books a Plenty Book Reviews
Some interesting history is also revealed as we get drawn into the seedy underside of greed and power.
~Laura’s Interests
A solid mystery with a lovely backdrop and some dabs of romance made this one a fun read for me.
Character guest post
Tracking is an art. That’s what I’ve been told.
I’m Gabriel Hawke, Oregon Fish and Wildife State Trooper who is Paty Jager’s character in her new Gabriel Hawke series.
Growing up, I didn’t realize how learning from my Nez Perce grandfather to track animals and people would help me secure the job I coveted. Life on the reservation can be hard on a kid. I was lucky to have a mother who always told me I didn’t have to stay on the reservation, I could dream of getting out and do it.  When the Army recruiter came to our high school, I saw joining as a way to get off the reservation and get work experience for later.
The military wasn’t much better than high school with there always being someone calling me Chief or Indian, but I didn’t get in too many fights and when I left the military, I had my sights on becoming a game warden in Wallowa County. I was specific about where I wanted to work, because the Wallowa area is where my ancestors wintered and summered. It was a sense of pride that made me want to watch over the animals and land of my forefathers.
To become a game warden, I had to be accepted into the Oregon State Police Academy. I was lucky to get in when they had received funding to put on more patrolmen. I worked patrol for seven years before the Fish and Wildlife division had an opening in Wallowa County. When it came open, I applied and received the job because of my tracking skills. With me in the county, they wouldn’t have to bring in a specialist to find lost backpackers and hunters. It was the first time I fully understood how special tracking, something I had taken for granted, was.
Now I am a seasoned Fish and Wildlife State Trooper who will continue working in the Wallowa Country until I can no longer ride a horse or drive a vehicle. But I will teach others how to track until I am no longer of this earth.

If you would like to learn more about me and how I am as tenacious as a bull dog when I want follow a trail, be it footprints in the dirt or clues to a murderer, check out my first book, Murder of Ravens.

Murder Wears A Little Black Dress by Debra Sennefelder-Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
Manhattan fashionista Kelly Quinn thought she’d left her upstate New York town far behind . . . until the Seventh Avenue expat returns home to revamp her grandmother’s consignment shop into an upscale boutique—and unwittingly sets a trend for murder . . .
After her rising career as a Manhattan buyer is derailed, Kelly has mixed feelings about relocating back to Lucky Cove, in spite of her big plans for the soon-to-be-renamed Curated by Kelly Resale Boutique. What’s left of her luck starts running out when a customer puts on a black lace dress that triggers visions of someone being murdered. As if the haunted “Murder Dress” isn’t enough to kill business, the psychic’s doppelganger cousin has just been found bludgeoned to death.
Was Maxine LeMoyne the real target or was it a case of mistaken murder? With some creepy pre-Halloween bargain hunters walking the night and Kelly suddenly a person of interest, a second murder rocks the close-knit town. Now Kelly could be the one who ends up talking to dead people when she’s stalked by a killer determined to take her out in high style . . .
And others are saying
Murder Wears a Little Black Dress is a lively cozy mystery with fashionable clothes, personable characters, murder, mystical forces, and mayhem.
~The Avid Reader
I enjoyed everything about the story. It was well-written, and the author threw in twists and turns that kept me guessing.
~Devilishly Delicious Book Reviews
And I thought
It's always fun to get into a new series at book 1.
Murder Wears A Little Black Dress was a fun and cozy read!
I was intrigued by the cute and fun cover and I was not disappointed.
All the characters are fun and bring their own style to this series.
The main character Kelly who is struggling to work everything out and manager the consignment shop she inherited is a sweet, strong and savvy business woman.  Even though all the drama and haunting almost gets her down she manages to pull up her big girl pants and stand up for herself and make a 'go of it'.  Even after being a suspect in a couple of murders and being ridiculed by her uncle and his trophy bride who accuses her of 'playing' Nancy Drew.
But in the long run Kelly figures out who is the real murder(s)  but not before she's knocked out by one suspect and then held at
gun point by the real culprit.

I really enjoyed this fun new series and I'm waiting anxiously for more and to find out if Kelly has a 'love' connection with the
attorney in town.

Playing For Keeps by Jill Shalvis-Review/Giveaway

About the book
If you’re planning on falling in love…
When it comes to the confident, charismatic Caleb Parker, Sadie Lane feels the spark—the kind that comes from rubbing each other the wrong way. She’s yoga pants, he’s a suit. She’s a tattoo artist, he’s a straight-laced mogul. But after they accidentally co-rescue an abandoned dog from a storm, Sadie sees a vulnerable side to the seemingly invincible hottie.
You’d better be sure…
Caleb doesn’t do emotions. Growing up the underdog, he’s learned the hard way to build up an impenetrable wall. Perfect for business. Disastrous for relationships. He’s never worried about it before—not until he finally gets behind Sadie’s armor and begins to fall.
Someone is there to catch you.
Both guarded and vulnerable, Sadie and Caleb are complete opposites. Or are they? Shocked at their undeniable connection, can they ever admit to wanting more? That all depends on what they’re each willing to risk.

And I thought
What a great story.  I knew that I would like it because I have
become a fan of Jill Shalvis.  But as with all the others I've
read . . . I actually loved it.
The characters are always fun and charming and believable.

With this one Sadie and Caleb who are acquaintances end up deciding to 'co parent' a dog.  What a great story line!

If you love a good romance.  Check this one out!

Picture Not Perfect by D.E. Haggerty-Great Escapes Tour

About the book
A picture tells a story. But is it the truth?
When the police find pictures of Melanie hanging up at her murdered colleague’s house, they’re convinced he was stalking her. Maybe she even killed him. Melanie was not being stalked! And she certainly didn’t kill her supposed stalker – as if. But Mel – always up for a bit of drama – jumps at the chance to go search for the real killer. When Mel’s ex-boyfriend, Owen, discovers her plans, he pulls out all the stops to ensure she’s safe and to win her back. No matter what happens with the murder investigation, he’s not letting her go. With the police setting their sights on Mel, he may need to jeopardize his own career on the police force to protect her.
Will Mel find the real killer before the detectives arrest her for murder?
And I thought
Sometimes the cover 'gets me'.  Sometimes it's the 'blurb/synopsis'
And then sometimes it's both. Like this time.  I read the description and thought I need to read this one.

I was glad to get the chance.  Picture Not Perfect was a page turner.

I couldn't help but enjoy the second chance at love (not giving anything away) but Owen was just determined to keep Mel out of trouble and safe.

Along with her friends everyone is out to prove that Mel was set up and not the murderer.

Picture Not Perfect is #2 in the series.  Although it is written as a stand alone I couldn't help but wish I had read the previous book
which would have brought perspective and an introduction to all the characters; the friends and boyfriends that were part of the sleuthing and getting to the 'real truth."

Finders Not Keepers book 1 in the series is on my TBR pile.

The 'Not So Reluctant Detective' series promises to give the
read lots of reading enjoyment!

For a fast, fun mystery check this one out.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites.

Matchmaker by Evangeline Kelly-Review

About the book
A Contemporary Christian Romance

She only wanted to survive her coffee date . . .
Ellie Parker had a date set up through an online Christian dating site. Shouldn’t be too bad, right? Except Ellie believed she was a walking disaster. After twenty-three set-ups, she’d never been asked out a second time. Meeting the new guy for coffee might be promising—if only she could pronounce his name right. Then enters Noah Donovan-- devastatingly handsome and completely unattainable. Too bad he wasn’t her date.
When Ellie spills coffee all over Noah’s shirt, she’s mortified to say the least. The guy she was supposed to meet hadn’t even arrived yet, and she’d already created havoc.
Noah had a reputation for being a matchmaker, even though his last relationship was a complete failure. He couldn’t take his eyes off the frantic redhead wearing the ugliest gold shawl he’d ever seen. Not only did she fumble her date, she practically ran the guy off. That’s when Noah stepped in and offered his services as a dating coach.
But what happens when the coach falls for the student? Will he be able to risk love again? And what if the student has insecurities that threaten a wall between them?
Can Noah convince Ellie that love is worth fighting for?
This is the second book in the Santa Clarita Love Stories Series, but it can be read as a standalone, and out of order.
And I thought
So much better than I expected.  This is a great read for any age audiance.
The characters are a fun group.  Some quirky and endearing as in Ellie the female main character.  I couldn't help but just love her!

Neither could Noah.  A guy that is almost too good looking.  A
guy that could get any girl in town.  A guy that is burned from a past relationship.  But much to his chagrin he can't get Ellie out of his system or off his mind.

Even when he sets her up with a good friend.  And then has second thoughts!

It takes him awhile to realize/figure out he really has feelings for
Ellie.  It takes his sister Olivia and her man Jax (who is Noah's best friend) and even Ryan the guy he tried to set Ellie up with to get him to look as his own feelings and give love a chance.

When he finally decides that love might be in the cards for him everything ends in a great Happily Ever After.  He's the kind of guy that was so into his girl he bought her a live rabbit for a pet.

There are parts in this book that are so good.  It's all good but it was just written well and the story flows and kept me really interested.

I realized when I did the research to write this post it is #2 in the series.   It is written as a stand alone.

Book #1 featured below is on my TBR pile.

I loved Matchmaker it is refreshing to find authors that write a good romance that is inspirational.

I recommend Matchmaker to any reader.

I received a complimentary copy.
My review will appear on retail sites and on my other blog over
at My Journey Back-The Journey Back.

The series
Shaken: A Contemporary Christian Romance
Olivia Donovan fell for her brother’s best friend, Jax, years ago and thought the feeling was mutual. How wrong she’d been. He’d invited her to meet him at the oak tree at her parent’s house, and then never showed up. She avoided him for years and moved on with another boyfriend.

On the day of her move to a new city, Olivia’s brother informed her that he wouldn’t be available to help, but not to worry, he set up a replacement. When Jax Hunter showed up at Olivia’s door, she was determined not to like him. After all, he was the stereotypical bad boy from her high school days and she wanted nothing to do with him.

But when a colossal event took place, relationships were tested and character revealed. Truth always has a way of rising to the surface. Will Olivia be able to trust God to make the biggest decision of her life? Or will she let the fear from her past hold her back?

 And I thought
Surprisingly fun.  But actually I wasn't surprised.  This one was  fun and entertaining story.

And even though I stepped in at book 7 I was completely engaged turning the pages all the way to the end!

Cookie Chanel oh I love her name is fun character.  Almost as fun as the ghosts that begin coming out of well where ever they come from.

There are some interesting and humorous characters that caused this reader to chuckle a time or two especially when Cookie is talking to the ghosts when others are around.

Cookie's cat Windsong is a very interesting character(s).

Check this one out!  I'll be checking out the other 6!

Her Billionaire To Remember by Sophia Summers-Book Review

book cover of Her Billionaire to Remember
About the book
Casandra Hilton, a New York debutant and East Coast heiress is found floating on a bed of seaweed and wood wreckage off the coast of South America. But when asked for her name or any kind of identification, she responds with a blank stare. Even though she has survived, she has no memory of her former life and any attempt she makes to remember fills her with fear. The kind Uruguayan family that took her in soon becomes dependent on her innate abilities with horses, particularly one troublesome stallion.

Shane Stapley, a Texas billionaire, has traveled to Argentina to purchase a champion stallion from the Cortez ranch. Early one morning he finds Casandra dealing with a stallion who refuses to leave the stables where they keep the mares. Everything about her draws him closer until he learns she cannot guarantee her heart is free to fall in love.

The attraction is obvious, but the risk is great. Will their patience pay off in a match between them or end in sorrow when they learn they must part?

And I thought
I was delighted to be offered the chance to read and review the
newest book in this series by Sophia Summers.

First off the cover spoke to me.   Give me a book about horses and Cowboys and I am smitten.
This one did not disappoint.
It was a bit different than I expected but non the less it was a great
read that I could recommend for any reader.  Any age.

This is just a good story.  There of course is romance.  A bit of mystery and suspense that will keep the reader turning the pages to the Happy Ending.

I recommend this clean/sweet romance for any reader.
