Running Out Of Time by Suzanne Trauth- A Great Escapes Tour

About the book
Restaurant manager Dodie O’Dell’s themed food ideas have been called cute, clever, and delicious, but never revolutionary—until now. Dodie’s Windjammer Restaurant is stocking the Etonville Little Theatre’s concession stand with colonial-era desserts and drinks: Swamp Yankee applesauce cake, pumpkin bread, hot cider punch, and mulled wine to complement the latest production. A local playwright has adapted Thornton Wilder’s Our Town into Eton Town, shifting the story to colonial America and the founding of Etonville, New Jersey, shortly after the Revolutionary War.
On opening night, hours before the curtain rises, Dodie runs into an agitated actress backstage with blood on her hands. Then a stranger is found among the chairs set for a graveyard scene with a knife in his chest. The show will not go on—the theatre is now a crime scene. Hoping to clear the red-handed suspect, Dodie returns to the role of amateur sleuth to mull over the clues and beat the backstage stabber to the punch—before someone else becomes history . . .

While Reagan’s protective love begins to mend Julie’s spirit, she can’t suppress her continued deep devotion to her late husband’s memory. And when a letter arrives from beyond the grave, Reagan resolves to provide her with the answers she desperately needs to heal. Now Julie must choose either to keep her heart closed off or remove the lock and fight for a future with Reagan. Can a second chance at true love be just as sweet?

What others are saying
“Lyrical, emotional and utterly romantic, Home Field reminds us of what’s most important in life: home, family and most of all, love.”
~Karen Rock, award-winning romance author of A League of Her Own
“You will see yourself in this book, it is SO relate-able on how our emotions and hearts put us at war with ourselves. The romance and heartwarming sweetness of the characters in this book provides is a great snuggle-with-a-blanket read that leaves you sighing with a smile.”     -Amazon Review
“Home Field was one of the best books that I have read this year. Laurie Winter captures her audiences heart and attention right from the very moment they flip the first page.”    -Amazon Review

And I thought
A sweet and heartwarming romance.  This story will have you shedding a tear or two; while you sigh and then smile almost all at the same time.
The characters are real.  This reader was immediately drawn to Julie and her plight.  The sadness of loosing her husband and being left with a young son tears at your heart strings.

But in steps Reagan.  An athlete that you don't expect to put his
bacheloring/womanizing days behind him.  Julie isn't his type.
He's not so in to women with children.

Once Reagan meets Julie he is a changed man when real romance and real love unexpectedly happens.

Home Field is a real romance.  It is a touching story that will have you turning the pages and leaving the rest of your world behind.
If your a fan of a good sweet romance you'll enjoy this one.
I am looking forward to reading True Horizon.

Of Murder and Men-A Great Escapes Tour

About the book (provided by Great Escapes Tours)
Love is in the air in Aspen Hills, and it’s making a terrible mess of Cat Latimer’s writers’ retreat—especially when blood stains the plot . . .
Ever since her business partner, Shauna, fell for a wealthy landowner in town, Cat has been working double time to keep her writers’ retreat running. And with the January session almost underway, that spells trouble. As if scheduling mishaps aren’t disastrous enough, Shauna skips out on kitchen duties one morning, forcing Cat to serve unsuspecting guests store-bought muffins . . .
But best laid plans really go awry when Shauna discovers her beau missing from their bed. When his body later turns up in the horse barn, they quickly find out the victim’s scandalous lifestyle left many dying for revenge. While balancing an eccentric group of aspiring writers and a suspect list for the record books, Cat soon finds herself on the heels of a killer—and authoring her most deadly conclusion yet . . .
Character interview
Hello Cat! Welcome to the blog.

Thanks for having me over, Sherry.

Have you ever visited a blog before? Yes, my author trots me out a lot for Killer Characters, the blog where the characters do the talking. I think she just signed me up for that to keep me busy.

Aspen Hills sounds like such a nice place to live. Have you lived there long? I grew up in Aspen Hills. My uncle's the police chief. My folks used to live here, but decided Florida was a better place to hang out. I went to college and graduated school at Covington, our local college, then started teaching there after getting my degree.  My ex-husband and I bought the Victorian and started remodeling. Then came the divorce. Long story short, I'm back in Aspen Hills and in my Victorian, minus the ex husband.

Where exactly is Aspen Hills located? It sounds like a quaint little town!  We'r about two hours south of Denver, near the National Forest. Close enough to big city conveniences like airports and shopping, but far enough away for that small town feel. We're really close to a small ski resort and the hiking here is amazing.

I would love to visit. What is your favorite place in town? My favorite place is probably The Written Word. It's our local bookstore. Or maybe Covington Library. I love just walking through that place. It feels like the books are talking to me. But I'm a book nerd. And proud of it. The coffee shop's not bad either.

The retreat center sounds so fun. Can you tell us a little about it.  We hold the retreat once a month. I like to keep it to 4-5 writers, that way they get a lot of time with me. They have full access to the Covington Library the week they're here and one of the English professors come and give a talk on the Hemingway papers. The library has his entire collection. It was quite a boost to the college.

A little of how you came to manage it? Shauna and I provided breakfast and snacks and then they write. We've had writers finish entire books while they're here. Lately we've been adding side trips to places like the Little Ski Hill just to give the writers a taste of Colorado while they're here.

Oh so it is a B&B so when your not hosting the Writer’s Retreats what are you up to? We only run the B&B for writers retreats. The rest of the time I write, Shauna manages the retreat. And cooks. I think she's working on a cookbook.

I am sure you offer/serve some wonderful food at the B&B can you tell us what one of the favorite things on the menu is?  Shauna loves making breakfast casseroles. She calls them stratas. She mixes all kinds of things together. I'm a fan of her brownies. They make me happy. Living with a chef want a be is really bad on my figure so I have to run. A lot.

I love horses and riding. Are you a rider? Do you have a favorite breed of horse?
I love to ask this question of horse people. I am especially partial to Paints and
Dunns. I love color! I'm not the horse person, Shauna is. But I think she grew up wanting a pony, now she has one with her new boyfriend. If I was mean, I'd say that's the only reason she's still dating Kevin. I'm not a big fan. I like to watch the horses out in the fields. We have a lot of appaloosas in the area. I think, Snow, Kevin's horse is a thoroughbred.

Is there a little tidbit about the retreats that you can share with the blog readers? What I love about the retreat is how everyone bonds over the writing. Writers are a strange bunch, me included, so when we say strange things in the general public, like I know exactly how to kill him, people shy away. With other writers, they get each other. As a writer myself, I've learned a bunch from my retreaters. Like ways to increase word count. Focus tricks. And how to step away from the book at times.

I know its probably been a long day for you so let’s close with one more Question. Just curious since I am about ready for my evening glass of wine.
What is your choice of a little evening treat? My choice? A plain, grocery store beer. :)  I really like Michelob  Ultra. It's not overpowering in taste. And it hits the spot.

Well I am certain that if given the chance I would be visiting you!
Thanks so much for stopping in to chat!

Thanks for having me over. I hope you come out to Aspen Hills soon!

Cat

And others are saying
While the story pulled me along without letting go and all was wrapped up pleasantly enough at the end, there are still enough possibilities left for adventure and surprises in a number of future books in this series. I eagerly await each of them.
~Laura’s Interests
WOW, just WOW! I have loved this series from the very start, but this book has blown the others out of the water!
~The Montana Bookaholic
I love the concept of this book – a writer’s retreat at a small B&B in a small town in Colorado. And with each retreat, it seems like someone is being murdered, stumbles across a crime or is involved with it somehow. Crazy, right?! But that seems to make this series even more interesting to me.
~Storeybook Reviews
I enjoyed this book quite a bit. . . This was a light, fun read and I recommend it.
~Valerie’s Musings
I love all the writer-y and bookish talk from Cat’s writer retreat and as usual, the mystery was well done and entertaining.
~I Wish I Lived In a Library
And I thought
What could be more fun and productive for a writer than a retreat at a B&B in beautiful Colorado?

But writers beware it seems that this little retreat is plagued with a criminal element.

In book 3 of the series Lynn Cahoon gives the reader a some twists and turns and a surprise ending.

I enjoyed the setting.  A B&B with an attached horse farm in beautiful Colorado I couldn't ask for more.

I enjoyed the characters.

But I couldn't help feeling sorry for Shauna.  I mean seriously
that dead boyfriend was really a creep and deserved what he got!
Poor girl.

And then there's Cat's baggage and the demise of her ex which all comes out and is revealed.

Although this installment was easy to grasp I think the reader would enjoy reading the series from the beginning.  I'll be going back and picking up the first two when I have a chance.

As I turned the last page I was a bit sad to see the series end.
And I wonder if maybe Miss Calhoon might be persuaded to
give us a little more Cat and Shauna.

TWOFER MURDER by Lauren Carr- I Read Book Tours

Twofer Murder by Lauren Carr

About the book
Twofer murder? What’s a twofer murder?

Twofer Murder is a treat for fans of best-selling author Lauren Carr’s fast-paced mysteries! Lauren’s latest novel contains the main characters from her three successful series: Mac Faraday, Lovers in Crime, and Thorny Rose mysteries. The guys go away for a fishing weekend only to get caught up in the murder of a journalist investigating fraud at a timber company. Meanwhile, the ladies are spending the weekend in the presidential suite at a posh resort where Jessica Faraday is to accept a lifetime achievement award for her late grandmother at a murder mystery writers conference. But before they have time to get their facials, they get wrapped up in their own real mystery when an up and coming author ends up dead!

Lauren Carr’s Twofer Murder is a 2-for-1—making it a must-read for any mystery fan!
And I thought
I don't know where to start.  Simply 5 stars isn't enough for me.
I have to admit Lauren Carr is my favorite Cozy Author.

Each book is just better and better.  Such is the case with
TWOFER MURDER she listened to her fans and brought us the characters from 3 of her fabulous series.

TWOFER MURDER is a stand alone although it features the characters I've and many others have come to love from
The Mac Faraday Series,  The Lover's In Crime Series and The Thorny Rose Series.

A new reader will not be lost at all.  Lauren always includes a cast of characters at the beginning of each book.

This one is written a little different.  It's actually two plots blended together.  The girls from the 3 series are all together at a writers retreat while the men go on a fishing excursion.

And of course there is murder a foot in both places.  Kind a makes a person wonder if the characters are a little cautious about traveling together.  Everywhere they go trouble follows.

About the characters. . .
I can't even break them down to main characters and sub characters they all pull their own weight in every plot especially this one.

The dogs (each series has a dog) from all the series come together to add some comic relief and some K9 expertise in handling the criminals and everyday tasks like fishing.  The comic relief comes when Gnarly (Mac Faraday Series) and Storm steal the cheese balls from the guys stash.  They make up for their thievery by catching fish for the guys.

I especially loved the ending because Lauren announced a new
series releasing in February.  I can't wait!

If you enjoy a good Who Dun It Cozy Clean read.  Check them all out!  You will not be disappointed.

You will not find any bedroom scenes (a little innuendo and some sexting is mentioned between newlyweds Jessica and Murphy who btw is just an amazing husband, and a covert operative...Murphy is a keeper!

Book Spotlight-Mister Mottley And The Dying Fall- Great Escapes Tour

About the book
The only way out is a long way down.
Edmund Mottley, Specialist in Discreet Enquiries, is in a precarious position: his old flame Susan needs his help. Her new fiance is accused of murder, and she wants Mottley to clear his name.
Mottley would rather jump off a cliff than get involved, but when Susan is threatened by a shadowy crime syndicate, Mottley leaps to her aid.
Mottley and Baker, his intrepid valet, pursue the case to an island of otherworldly beauty. But the island is haunted by secrets, treachery, madness, and … something more.
Every clue crumbles under their feet, pushing Mottley’s powers of deduction — and Baker’s loyalty — to the limit. With his own life on the line, can Mottley save Susan before time runs out?
The Mottley & Baker Mysteries are classic whodunnits set in the Golden Age of 1930’s traditional detectives. If you like Miss Marple’s pastoral puzzles or Albert Campion’s rollicking adventures, you’ll fall hard for this cozy historical mystery.
What others are saying
I enjoy how all of the clues seem to fit together like a giant jigsaw puzzle with the picture hidden until the very end.

Power Struggle by Carolyn Arnold-A Great Escapes Book Tour

About the book
One hit man who’s back for revenge.
One detective who’s not going down without a fight.
It’s been ten months since Detective Madison Knight almost died at the hands of Russian Mafia hit man Constantine Romanov. She hasn’t seen hide nor hair of him since he escaped police custody and fled to Russia soon after his arrest, except now her latest murder investigation gives her reason to believe he’s back in town. Seeing as the victim is the man who killed her grandfather, her perspective may be a little skewed, but with the MO smacking of Constantine and the victim’s connections to the mob, she finds it hard to be objective. Still, she’s doing her best to consider all the evidence.
When she receives a threatening letter from Constantine, however, her suspicions are confirmed. And he’s made it abundantly clear that not only does he plan to finish what he started but he has her family and loved ones in the crosshairs, too. Madison vows to do whatever it takes to save them, but as the hours race by, the body count rises. And the stakes only get higher when Madison’s sister, Chelsea, goes missing.
Now, Madison’s only play is to take Chelsea’s disappearance for what it really means: Constantine is calling Madison out for one final showdown. And they won’t both survive…

And I thought
One of my favorite kind of book is a fast paced; Crime, Suspenseful, Thrillers with strong and good characters.
I really like the good cops. I like it when it all goes well for them, everything turns out o.k. and there is a little clean romance.

For me Power Struggle  and author Carolyn Arnold fits right into my list and has become a new favorite.

Fast paced.   From page 1 the reader is drawn into the story. When a brutal murder takes place Madison and her partner are fast on the scene.

But the scene doesn't go quite as normal for Madison when she realizes that the MO is too close to one from a few years before.  A murder by a hit man that is probably back in town and ready to come after Madison.

The suspense unfolds as everyone realizes that the hit man Constantine is back and ready for revenge.  What hit man wouldn't be when he botches an assignment.  Which is exactly what happened.  Madison was his victim and she got away.  So now he's back and seeking revenge by threatening her family.

When Madison refuses to be taken off the case friends, family and co-workers encourage her to let the other police handle.

Like if she quite the hit man would really just go away.  Hello?

Which he doesn't of course.  And so the game is on.

The ride is thrilling.  The ride is suspenseful and fills the reader with a few hours of on the edge of the seat entertainment.

And about the romance and good ending?  I can't spill the beans you'll have to read it yourself.

I received a complimentary copy.
