Book Review

About the book
She’s got to solve this—or her friends are sunk . . .
Kelly Jackson, manager of the Redwood Cove Bed and Breakfast, is fond of the Doblinsky brothers, Ivan and Rudy, members of the Silver Sentinels, a crew of crime-solving senior citizens in their Northern California seaside hamlet. After she discovers a jewel-encrusted dagger—with what appears to be dried blood on the blade—on their fishing boat, they share their family history with Kelly, and she learns that the knife may be part of a set from their long-ago childhood in Russia. Its sudden reappearance is eerie, but the mystery grows much more serious when a body is found on the boat. The victim was staying at Kelly’s inn, in town for a Russian Heritage Festival, and some of the organizers were clearly harboring some bitterness. But the story behind this murder seems as layered as a nesting doll—and Kelly’s feeling completely at sea . . .
And others are saying
It pulls you in and has you gripping until the story is over. The group works fabulous and they get things done in their own way!

The Hidden Corpse by Debra Sennefelder-Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
Former reality TV baking show contestant and recent divorcĂ©e Hope Early is trying to find her recipe for success as a food blogger—but murder keeps getting in the mix . . .
When Hope’s elderly neighbor perishes in a home fire, she can’t help but feel somewhat responsible. Only the day before, Peggy Olson had called her over, having burned a pot on the stove while she was sleeping and filling the house with smoke. In fact, she couldn’t even remember cooking. Clearly, it was dangerous for the woman to live alone.
But it turns out she wasn’t alone. When a second body is discovered in the basement of the burned house, suddenly what appeared to be a tragic accident is beginning to look like premeditated murder. As rumors spread like wildfire, Hope is determined to sort out the facts and smoke out a killer, but she might be jumping from the frying pan straight into the fire . . .
Includes Recipes from Hope’s Kitchen!

Slaughtered by K.A. Lugo-Goddess Fish Promo Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book
The Texter

Fallen homicide detective, Jack Slaughter, closes the door on the home where his perfect family has been brutally snatched from him. Moving across the city, he works as a private investigator to fund his own investigation into what happened to his family—who killed his little girl, ZoĂ«, and where is his wife, Leah?

Every three month for the last three years, Jack receives a simple text telling him where he can find his missing wife. There’s a body at each location, but none of them are Leah.

Jack hates missing person’s cases, but they’re his bread and butter. He only takes the case to find Carl Boyd's missing wife because the details of her disappearance closely match Leah’s. He hopes by finding Bonnie Boyd, he'll find his own wife.

The Butcher

Following the leads in the Bonnie Boyd case, Jack discovers someone has been killing women all over the city for the last three years, a fact Jack’s ex-partner and still best friend, Ray Navarro, has neglected to tell him. The city has a serial killer and officials haven’t been able to find a single lead on the person they’ve dubbed The Butcher.

Could Bonnie Boyd’s disappearance be linked to The Butcher? More important, was Leah one of The Butcher’s victims? Could he have gone so far as to murder a child?

With every clue Jack weaves together, the more his own life unravels.

And I thought
This is one that 'had me' at the cover.  And then I read the synopsis!

I really enjoyed this fast past thrilling suspenseful story.

This one may not be for the faint of heart as the crime(s) are a bit creepy (not graphic)  But, that just makes a good thriller.

There was a part that was a bit confusing when Jack begins investigating the disappearance of Bonnie Boyd.  He takes the case because her disappearance is very similar to his wife's.

I was thinking Hmm right along with Jack but then I had a bit of an inside track because I had read the synopsis.

As Jack follows a few leads and pulls in some favors from past associates he ends up investigating the deaths of a number of women and it all seems to lead back to his wife's disappearance.

Another Hmm.  Right?  We'll see.  I am not giving anything away.

There are a few characters in the book Jacks x-partner Ray who is still a good friend,  Ray's current partner who seems to be a jerk
every time Jack is around and a few others that just kind of
disappear into the story.  Probably because Jack is well he's just Jack all hunkiness broody and grieving and all around a character to capture your attention.

And capture you he does as he ferrets out the facts solves the crimes and then saves a few lives tying up loose ends and all is well.  A Happy Ending.  And, a clue to a juicy tidbit that has the reader waiting for the next Jack Slaughter Thriller.

Taken By The Highlander by Eliza Knight-A Novella-Review

Taken by the Highlander: Book 2.5 (Conquered Bride Series 6) by [Knight, Eliza]

About (provide by Amazon)
A week before Lady Rose Munro is to wed a neighboring laird, she is abducted on the road by a wicked and dangerously handsome stranger. Highland warrior, Malcolm Montgomery has been ordered by King Robert the Bruce to steal Rose and her son from the suspected traitor she is about to marry—gifting him with an ancient and much sought after dagger as payment. Rose shouldn’t trust her captor. Shouldn’t feel her body heat at his simple touch, or allow him to press his fervent lips to hers… Malcolm shouldn’t be seducing the woman he is sworn to protect. Shouldn’t desire her, for she’s not meant to be his… Succumbing to passion threatens them both, and falling in love is absolutely not an option.

And I thought
Admittedly I don't normally read Historical Romances.
I was offered a complimentary copy so I thought I would give it a whirl.
Taken By The Highlander was actually a really, really good
read.  I enjoyed every moment of the ride.
The main characters Lady Rose and Malcom are captivating.
Rose is a strong willed woman.  But she is vulenerable too.
And then there's the heart throb Highland Warrior Malcom.
He's on a mission for the King but quickly becomes enamored with the fair lady.
All the while they are being chased by the bad guys.
The story is action packed and very good.

There is one bedroom scene and no language.

If you enjoy Historical Romances check this one out.

I received a complimentary copy.

A Little About The Author

Once upon a time, in a land far away, there lived a princess…

Growing up, I was a proficient story teller, with most of my plots encompassing princesses and princes and dreams coming true. Now as an author, some of my stories are still about royalty, knights, duels, ladies, intrigue, betrayal. History fascinates me and I try to bring history back to life in each of my stories.

My favorite time periods are medieval, renaissance and Regency eras of Europe. Growing up, I was lucky to have grandparents who lived in Paris, so many a summer was spent exploring medieval ruins and historical sites. . .
