With his high-tech job busier than ever and his nieces’ antics sidetracking him, Marty’s ready for a Thanksgiving holiday. All he has to do is solve two murders. With the help of his girlfriend, some wacky coworkers and Buddy the rambunctious Labrador, Marty sets out to disprove the ironclad evidence. But as the suspect list blossoms out of control, his bumbling efforts might lead him into problems faster than a failing hard drive.

Murph Murphy And The Case Of Serious Crisis by Keith Hirshland-Book Review

About the book
Murphy Murphy comes from a long line of male Murphys. All were named Murphy and all were cops. This Murphy heads the Department of Redundancy Department and his superior officer, Captain David “Dud” Hill has found him a case. The Captain’s niece is in a rock ‘n roll band called Serious Crisis, and it seems items belonging to members of the band have started to disappear.
Were these items stolen? Were they simply lost? As Murphy Murphy works the case, he must chase down the clues all the while dealing with grammatical anomalies that drive him crazy.  As Murphy gets closer to the answers he seeks, one more “thing” goes missing; the Captain’s niece. Suddenly, in an instant, the stakes in the case of Serious Crisis become a lot more dire.
Part Jasper Fforde, part Michael Connelly; Murphy Murphy and the Case of Serious Crisis combines humor, mystery, and grammar goofs as the detective pursues clues and suspects from coast to coast. It’s an entertaining and educational read for all ages.
And others are saying

Praise for Keith Hirshland

“I really enjoyed following along with each person as you discovery more about each one along with how four unsolved mysteries may be linked to everything..’Big Flies’ story takes off like a flash.. This is a great adventure and one that I recommend you check out. You will not be disappointed.”-JBrownder Book Reviews
“ I found myself intrigued by this talented writer’s style.. A mystery woven into another mystery. The suspense was great. I enjoyed following the characters throughout the book.. this novel was realistic, stunning, and one that all readers can easily connect to in one or more ways. Brilliant, clever, and mysterious. Keith Hirshland has a way that lured me in deep. I couldn’t stop reading it.”-Urban Book Reviews
“This is an engaging story well told. The plot hinges on the power of secrets and secrets revealed but Keith fully understands the heart of the story is the unfolding of relationships fulfilled or not. Can we ever really know who we know? While this novel works beautifully as a nostalgic and fun caper tale it’s all wrapped up in fathers and sons, true and lasting friends and of course intriguing women. Keith is aiming high here. Really, really well done.”- David R. Hill, Amazon Reviewer
“I had to dig my teeth in the first pages but once I did I was on a twisty turning ride. This one turned out to be worth the ride.  A fast paced story with great characters. The plot had some twists making it entertaining.  As the bodies begin piling up it’s a race to solve the mystery.  I enjoyed reading ‘The Flower Girl Murder’. and look forward to reading more from this author. “-My Reading Journeys

“Author Keith Hirshland provides a multi-layered storyline that has enough mystery, suspense, drama, treachery, secrets, and intriguing twists and turns that keeps the reader guessing, while weaving an intricate and complicated web of what the motive of the murders could have been, and the spectrum of possible participants who could have been involved in committing them. And if that isn’t enough to captivate the reader, the author adds a wonderful touch of humor and a bit of romance into the mix to keep them entertained.”-Jersey Girl Book Reviews

Scars of the Past by B.K. Stubblefield-Book Review

About the book
Even emotional wounds leave scars

It’s been more than a year since an explosion cost soldier Reid McCabe a leg and two of his men. His physical wounds have healed. He’s not sure the emotional wounds ever will. Hopefully, the cross-country walk he’s participating in to raise awareness of veteran suicide and PTSD will help ease his troubled mind and spirit. The last thing he ever expected to be thinking about at this point in his recovery was love. But that was before he met the feisty Keira Flannigan …
Keira has emotional wounds of her own. Opening her heart to a wounded warrior—or anyone, for that matter—is not on her agenda.  She might need Reid’s help to foster and find a home for the little stray dog he’d rescued, but romance just isn’t in the cards for them. That’s what she tells herself, at least …
Can Reid and Keira overcome the years of pain and self-doubt that stand between them? Or will the scars of the past destroy their shot at happily ever after?

And I thought
What a great read.  I was not surprised because I have read the other books in the Oak Creek Series and I have really enjoyed each one.
Although Scars of the Past is part of the Oak Creek series it is written as a stand alone.
B.K. Stubblefield expertly weaves a story with likeable characters that keep you turning the pages.
You'll meet fun loving  Reid and Keira they will warm your heart.
They are just nice folks that  deserve romance even though they both are struggling with their pasts they become good friends that have a little bit of an attraction to each other.
This is not just a romance.  It is a story that takes you into real life that might be just a little too close to home in it's dealing with wounded warriors and how the after effects of war can ruin peoples lives.
In Scars of the Past we meet some wounded warriors that step up and help out veterans like themselves that are dealing with the scars.
There is some drama as the parents who have lost a son are hurting and blame others.
In the end we have a Happy Romance and a feel good story.

The F.I.G. Mysteries by Barbara Casey- Series Spotlight Tour-I Read Book Tours

Three high-spirited 17 year olds, with intelligent quotients in the genius range, accompany their teacher and mentor, Carolina Lovel, to Frascati, Italy, a few weeks before they are to graduate from Wood Rose Orphanage and Academy for Young Women. Carolina's purpose in planning the trip is to remove her gifted, creative students from the Wood Rose campus located in Raleigh, North Carolina, so they can't cause any more problems ("expressions of creativity") for the headmaster, faculty, and other students – which they do with regularity. Carolina also wants to visit the Villa Mondragone where the Voynich Manuscript, the most mysterious document in the world, was first discovered and search how it is related to a paper written in the same script she received on her 18th birthday when she was told that she was adopted – a search that will fill in all of the missing pieces of her past and help each of her students to discover something meaningful within themselves.

Seventeen-year-old Dara Roux and her two best friends, Mackenzie Yarborough and Jennifer Torres, the three collectively referred to as the FIGs (Females of Intellectual Genius) because each has an intelligence quotient in the genius range, have just returned from Frascati, Italy. It was there that their much loved teacher and mentor, Carolina Lovel, discovered that her birth parents were gypsies, and that she had a connection to the Voynich Manuscript, the most mysterious document in the world. Now, with graduation from Wood Rose Orphanage and Academy for Young Women behind them, Dara asks Mackenzie, Jennifer, and Carolina to help her locate her birth mother when she learns that she might be living in New York City. All the young women have to work with are five addresses, and when Mackenzie prepares a grid showing the location of all five addresses, four of the locations form a square with the fifth in the middle—which is also Grand Central Terminal. Relying on Dara’s gift for speaking and understanding foreign languages, the black and white images that stir musical cadences in Jennifer’s mind, and Mackenzie’s mathematical calculations that normally provide numerical solutions and answers to life’s most difficult questions but now keep showing the number “61”, the determined young women tirelessly go from one address to another in search of Dara’s mother. Their determination turns to desperation, however, and they ignore caution and the dissonant chords Jennifer frantically scribbles on her eight-stave musical paper as they pursue one final address—the one located in the middle of Mackenzie’s grid. Encountering a dark hidden society and sub culture more dangerous and terrifying than they could have imagined, it is there that Dara learns why she was abandoned as a seven year old in a candy store all those years ago.

The three FIGs—Females of Intellectual Genius—as they are called, have graduated from Wood Rose Orphanage and Academy for Young Women after returning from New York City where Dara learned why her mother abandoned her all those years ago, and they are now attending universities where they can further their special talents. This means they will be separated from each other and from Carolina, their much-loved mentor and teacher who is “one of them,” for the first time in their young lives. They vow to try living apart for one semester, in the so-called real world that doesn’t include the orphanage; but if things don’t work out, they will come up with another plan—a plan where they can be together once again. Dara is invited through Yale University to take part in an exciting archeological project in China. Jennifer, once again visualizing black and white images and the unusual sounds of another cadence that seem to be connected to Mackenzie, is engrossed in creating her next symphony at Juilliard. Mackenzie, because of her genius at problem-solving, is personally chosen by a US Senator to get involved in a mysterious, secret research project involving immortality that is being conducted in a small village in China—not too far from where Dara is involved with the archeological site. Once there, however, she finds herself facing a terrifying death from the blood-dripping teeth of an ancient evil dragon. Her best friends, the FIGs and Carolina, rely on their own unique genius and special talents to save her as she discovers the truth of her birth parents.

Book Description:

Jennifer Torres, one of the three FIGs (Females of Intellectual Genius) who is a genius in both music and art, is the last to leave the closed rehearsal for her upcoming performance over Thanksgiving break at Carnegie Hall when she hears something in the darkened Hall. Recognizing the tilt of the woman’s head and the slight limp of the man as they hurry out an exit door, she realizes it is her parents who were supposedly killed in a terrible car accident when she was 15 years old. Devastated and feeling betrayed, she sends a text to Carolina and the other two FIGs—THURGOOD. It is the code word they all agreed to use if ever one of them got into trouble or something happened that was too difficult to handle. They would all meet back at Carolina’s bungalow at Wood Rose Orphanage and Academy for Young Women to figure it out.

As soon as they receive the text, because of their genius, Dara starts thinking of words in ancient Hebrew, German, and Yiddish, while Mackenzie’s visions of unique math formulae keep bringing up the date October 11, 1943. That is the date during World War II when the Nazis—the Kunstschutz—looted the paintings of targeted wealthy Jewish families and hid them away under Hitler’s orders. And as Carolina waits for the FIGs to return to Wood Rose, she hears warnings from Lyuba, her gypsy mother, to watch for the nightjar, the ancient name for the whip-poor-will.

As they search for “The Nightjar’s Promise” and the truth surrounding it, Carolina and the FIGs come face to face with evil that threatens to destroy not only their genius, but their very lives.

The Barks & Beans Cafe cozy mystery series in order:
Book 1: No Filter
Book 2: Iced Over
And I thought
I loved it.  I loved Macy, Bo and of course Coal.
Macy was fun and a bit quirky and a born sleuth.  She just can't give it up and let the police do thier work.
Bo was the Bro everyone wants.  Ready and willing to do Macy's bidding, run interferance for her and get her out of trouble which
happens quite frequently as she snoops first trying to find Coal when he's dognapped and then later trying to discover who took him and why and maybe solve a murder or two at the same time.
The Barks & Beans series is just my kind of read.  I love the quain town and the coffee shop/doggie daycare.  It's just the kind of place I want to live although I'd have to have friends like Macy that can make sure if there are any bad guys around the she'll snoop them out.
It is always fun to get into a new series and this one was a pleasure to start.
It is a bit different I think than most cozies Bo has a hidden past that actually comes back to 'bite' him and Macy too and leads into the next book.
I am sure each book is written as a stand a lone but the storyline follows through in the next one there's a kind of cliff hanger at the end.
I am kind of looking forward to seeing if Bo and Macy end up with a little romance.  Maybe a double wedding?
