Sweet Afternoon by Jessie Gussman
Willen Hawkins knew exactly what she wanted to do with her unexpected inheritance: use it to fix up the Indigo Inn at Blueberry Beach.

After all, it’s been more than eighteen years since she graduated from Blueberry Beach High and left town.

The life she’s created for herself is far more lonely than the life she’d envisioned for herself as a teen. But if she wants to reinvent herself and start building the life she wants, she has to stop waiting for everything to be perfect and start now.

Drake Jensen wants to disappear.

Being voted the sexiest man alive for the past five years, starring in eight of the top ten highest grossing movies of the last decade and being the most sought-after leading man in Hollywood didn’t keep his wife from running off with the nanny, taking his kids and destroying everything he’d thought he’d been building.

Hiding out at a newly opened inn that no one has heard of before and getting a job as a laborer should keep his identity under wraps.

He’s not staying.

But he hadn’t planned on the town being so supportive nor on falling in love with a woman who is determined to make him her enemy.

Can Willen learn that she doesn’t need to be perfect in order to be loved? Will Drake be able to choose between Hollywood and the new life that could be his?

The House on Crow Mountain by Rebecca Lee Smith

 August 20

About the book

When her aunt suffers a stroke, New York portrait artist Emory Austen returns home to the North Carolina mountains to mend fences and deal with the guilt over her husband’s senseless death. But that won’t be as easy as she hoped.

Someone in the quirky little town doesn’t like Emory. Is it the sexy architect who needs the Austen land to redeem himself? The untrustworthy matriarch? The grudge-bearing local bad boy? Or the teenage bombshell who has raised snooping to an art form? Even the local evangelist has something to hide. Who wrote the cryptic note warning her to “Give it back or you’ll be dead? And what is ‘it’? As the clues pile up and secrets are exposed, Emory must discover what her family has that someone would kill for.

Read an excerpt

Could it be something of Kent’s they were after? Something he’d kept hidden? He was good at keeping secrets. In fact, he’d been a master at it. After his death, I’d packed the few possessions he hadn’t moved out of the apartment and sent them to his parents. I’d kept nothing except the gold wedding band he’d thrown at me from across the room and his cell phone.

Kent’s death.

Hard to even think those words, much less say them out loud. It was all still so surreal.

Maybe everything that had happened in Bitter Ridge was karma. Maybe the Universe was finally giving me exactly what I deserved. Kent’s death had been my fault. And no matter how much he had deceived me, or betrayed me, or reduced my sad little trusting heart to shrapnel, I could never forgive myself.

I laid my head on my knees and closed my eyes. I rocked my body back and forth, like a child trying to soothe itself when sleep will not come. Then at last, in the cool dark shadows of the night, I began to cry.

Oh, God, I am so sorry.

I hadn’t loved Kent for a long time. At the end of our marriage, I hadn’t even liked him. But I had never wished him dead.

And I thought

A page turner.

Not what  I expected.

Normally the books promoted on Great Escapes  Book Tours are cozy mysteries.

The House on Crow Mountain left me curious if it was Cozy or a Suspense.

The cover spoke Suspense to me.

The characters were diverse.

I liked Emory the main character.

I was back and forth along with Emory about James.  Was he a good guy or the villain.

I loved the quirky resident of the facility be where where Emory's aunt was cared for.

She was smart and savvy and helped Emory figure out who might be behind all the drama.

There were a couple of events that to took away the cozy aura of the story for me.

When Tess a bulimic  young woman living with James's family cuts Emory's hair took this reader to a different place than I expected.

I did enjoy the book. I did enjoy the characters.

The House on Crow Mountain was well written.  The characters were developed.

I enjoyed the plot.

I didn't get a good Cozy feeling.

I received a complimentary copy.

My review be will appear on Amazon and Good Reads.

Cajun Kiss Of Death by Ellen Byron Great Escapes Book Tour Review

About the book

The next shot from Cupid’s bow may be fatal in USA Today bestselling, Agatha Award-winning author Ellen Byron’s hearty and delightful seventh Cajun Country mystery.

In Pelican, Louisiana, Valentine’s Day has a way of warming the heart, despite the February chill. But the air at Crozat Plantation B&B turns decidedly frigid when celebrity chef Phillippe Chanson checks in. And when the arrogant Phillippe–in town to open his newest Cajun-themed restaurant–perishes in a fiery boat crash, Maggie Crozat’s dear friend JJ lands in very cold water.

Did JJ, proprietor of Junie’s Oyster Bar and Dance Hall, murder Phillippe because he feared the competition? Might Maggie’s mother, Ninette, have bumped off the chef for stealing one of her cherished recipes? Or was the culprit a local seafood vendor, miffed because Phillippe was somehow able to sell oysters for a remarkably reasonable price, despite an oyster shortage?

Maggie had planned to devote her February to art lessons in New Orleans, a present from her sweetheart, Bo. But now she has to focus on helping her friend and her mother cross a murder charge off the menu. Meanwhile, Maggie receives a series of anonymous gifts that begin as charming but grow increasingly disturbing. Does Maggie have an admirer–or a stalker? And are these mysterious gifts somehow related to Phillippe’s murder?

Blood may be thicker than water, but this case is thicker than gumbo. And solving it will determine whether Maggie gets hearts and roses–or hearse and lilies–this Valentine’s Day.

And I thought

I love visiting Pelican Louisiana and the Crozat  Plantation B&B even though there always seems to be a murder or two happening close by.

Maggie Crozat is a charming leading lady and pretty savvy at finding clues even if she isn't trying.

I have loved each if the books I have had the chance to read in this series.

I love that the author provides a cast of characters in the beginning.

And ends the book with yummy recipes.

And a bit of trivia about Louisiana.

I love the covers! Ellen Byron's Cajun Country Series has the best covers in the Cozy World.

If you like a good Cozy Mystery you'll enjoy this great series.

A Scone Of Contention by Lucy Burdette Review

About the book

A murderer’s out to spoil Hayley’s honeymoon in national bestselling author Lucy Burdette’s eleventh Key West Food Critic Mystery.

Key Zest food critic Hayley Snow and her groom, police detective Nathan Bransford, chose Scotland for their long-delayed honeymoon, hoping to sightsee and enjoy some prize-winning scones. But their romantic duo swells to a crowd when they’re joined by Nathan’s family as well as octogenarian Miss Gloria.

Nathan’s sister Vera takes the women on a whirlwind tour of some of Scotland’s iconic mystic places as research for a looming book project. But the trip takes a deadly tartan turn when a dinner party guest falls ill and claims she was poisoned. And then the group watches in horror as a mysterious tourist tumbles to his death from the famous Falkirk Wheel, high above the Forth & Clyde canal.

Vera and her friends deny knowing the dead man, but after observing their reactions to the fall, Hayley is not convinced. With one person dead, a second possibly poisoned, and the tension among Vera’s friends as thick as farmhouse cheese, Hayley fears her long-awaited honeymoon might end with another murder.

Far away from home, surrounded by unfamiliar faces, eccentric characters, and a forbiddingly gorgeous setting, Hayley must call on all her savvy to keep a killer from striking again and then escaping Scot free.

And others are saying

Scone of Contention is a culinary cozy mystery that has something for everyone: clean romance, Scotland, high family (in-law) drama, yummy recipes and several mysteries to solve.

~Diane Reviews Books

. . . a fabulous cozy that takes the reader on a trip across the globe with good food and Suspense sprinkled on top. Sure to delight fans of cozies with a culinary flair.

~Books a Plenty Book Reviews

SCONE OF CONTENTION is a delightful mystery that shows how conflicts of the past can impact the present. I enjoyed this trip to Scotland with a nip of whiskey, a slather of butter on a hot scone, and a devilishly good mystery.

~Cozy Up With Kathy

And I thought

A fun read.  Another installment from a series I really like!

I really enjoy the regular Florida setting but a little travel was fun.

Going along with Hayley and Nathan on their Scottish honeymoon was charming.

Until the family drama threatens to ruin the Cozy trip.

And then of course there is a murder to solve and a little on mystery that keeps the characters busy.

Another great read as part of a fun series.

I can't wait for Hayley and Nathan to get back to Florida.

I received a complimentary copy.
