And I thought

The cover got me on this one.  I was so happy to receive the offer from Tasty Tours to review that I didn't read the synopsis. 

I mean who doesn't like a good 'ole Harlequin?

I was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't only a romance it was a Romantic Suspense.  Which are my favorite reads.

Ethan's Daughter is book 7 in the Templeton Cove Series. 
Each book is written as a stand alone.  I did check out a couple of the others.  Book 1 features Cat Garret who is the police chief in town.   I suspect that although the stories are all stand alone that we can expect to see some of the characters in the other installments. 

I enjoyed the story.  I did figure out who one of the bad guys was (but I won't spoil it).    

The romance between Leah and Ethan struggles from the beginning.  Even though they are attracted to each other circumstances cause them to go on again off again.  

The trial of someone apparently threatening not only Leah because of her recently relationship with Ethan and his Daughter Daisy forces a wedge between them as they each have differing opinions in how to deal with the problem.  

It all works out in the end which always makes for a good story!

I look forward to the chance to read additional books in the series.

And I thought

Honestly I was more than pleasantly surprised.  I really enjoyed this book.  I don't give 5 stars often.  A Game of Deceit deserves my 5 stars. 

I really don't know what I was expecting.  I guess I kind of didn't think it would fall into the Cozy category.   The cover took me closer to a suspense/thriller. 

I learned you can't judge a book by it's cover.

This was a great read.  From the beginning I was drawn in and captivated by the characters and the story.  

I caught myself rooting for a new love interest for Kathryn.  Should she end up with the cop or the client?

No giveaways here.  You have to read it!

This book is described as a standalone.  And nothing about a series is mentioned.  

Leads me to question if there is a 2nd book in the works.  The epilogue leads me to suspect that Kathryn, the detective, her client and new partner will appear in another book as there was a bit of a cliff hanger in the epilogue. 

The story did end with all the mystery solved along with a twist that I didn't expect!  

This was a good clean book.  Very mild language.  There was a bedroom scene in the very beginning. 

The author included recipes at the end. 

I enjoyed A Game of Deceit and I hope to see more.

Book Review-Across Borders by Lee Ducote

And I thought

I was only a few pages in and two things crossed my mind

1. I am gonna love this
2. Someone is gonna die and I won't like it

I was right on both thoughts.  

This was a super fast pace thrilling road across the dusty roads of Texas and Mexico. 

I immediately feel in love with all the characters.  Back to those first thoughts.  I knew one of them wasn't gonna make it to the end.  A very small part of me didn't want to find out who.  But another 

part the bigger part didn't want the story to end.  

Even at the very end I wished that there was more.  

The subject/plot of the book is about Texas Border Agents fight against immigrants and the despicable Coyote's that prey on the poor people that are trying, praying and willing to do anything  for a better.

About 3/4's in the is a part that describes a ritual that the Coyote's

perform.  It is graphic in nature.  But the subject is unsettling because it is true and really happens.

There is way more to this plot/story than the fight to control the borders. 

There is a reverence and respect to God that I was not expecting.

Although the main character Lawson and a few his buddies played basketball on Sunday instead of going to church. (until a couple of girls 'lured"them into the services) And didn't really have much of a practising faith their Captain 'Cap' who considered the 5 men on his 'team' encouraged them.  

This underlying theme made the book even that much more appealing to me.     I love suspense.  I love thrillers.  And I love romance.  Across Borders was much more than I expected it was a story filled with suspense and romance and was just a great book to read.  

The best party?  The good guys win.

The publisher places Across Borders in the  categories of Fiction/Thriller/Crime. The book is available at online retailers.

And I thought 
I was super excited when I was offered Survival instinct for review!  This is the kind of story I really like.  I just kind of like the ex military man or cop gone freelance.  

Survival instinct was a little thriller/suspense and a little romance.  A great combination and a great read.
A great read!

A great fast paced keep you on the edge of your seat story line
with some twists and turns.  

The characters were believable and interesting!  

Shane our retired military guy is the perfect guy a little dark, a little mysterious, brave and romantic.  Even though he's not looking for a romance he ends up 'fallen'.

Chloe is an interesting character.  Sweet, trusting and trust worthy and tenacious. A little tough but also a little in need of some romance! And somewhat mysterious.

Survival instinct is book 3 in the series.  I look forward to 
reading book 1 and book 2.

Book Review-No Turning Back-by Tracy Buchanan-Giveaway

And I thought

A good fast paced thriller. Full of suspense and twists and turns.

I couldn't help but side with poor Anna as she tries to hold onto normally daily life while trying to figure out 'who did it'. 

I couldn't help but be 'annoyed' with the doofus police who can't seem to figure out what is/was going on!  Personally I didn't see why they kept suspecting poor Anna.  But indeed they did!  

Then, her friends shun her.  

Her x-husband who in my opinion was a bit of a jerk begins to accuse and starts threatening to file for full custody of their sweet 8 month old daughter.  Sighting that their baby is in danger being with her Anna.  Then hello the sweet little baby is actually kidnapped while in His mother's care at her professional day care.  Hello?  That part just got me. 

Sadly because I couldn't help but see how all these events could actually happen!  

The only person who seems to want to help is Jamie the older brother of the boy she accidentally kills.  

But the reader along with Anna is left questioning his intentions! 

All this takes the reader through a wild twisty turning ride.  

That finishes with a few surprises.  

I totally enjoyed reading No Turning Back!   I was intrigued from the beginning to the end.

And I thought...
I did some thinking about this one.  The Priority Unit is a Christian Romantic Suspense title. 
The thing that had me thinking was that the main characters were not 'Believers'.  They were 'Seekers'.  I have never run across a book 'Christian' or 'Inspirational' book where the main characters were not already Believers.  Most of the stories I have read have had the characters at least one in more of a  fallin' away type of existence.
It took me awhile to decide how I really felt about the 'Seekers'.  
I don't say this in a bad way at all just a questioning manner much like the characters are seeking answers with their questions about God.  
The more that I've thought about this I feel like The Priority Unit
is a wonderful story and possibly one of the best approaches to introducing someone to a 'real' relationship with Christ that I've ever seen/read. 
I enjoyed the characters.  I enjoyed the plot.  It was a bit slow in the beginning (the first few chapters) but once it picked up I was drawn in for a fast and furious ride.   The ride takes the reader through car bombing(s), missing persons, espionage and drug dealers.  
All the plots and subplots worked together for a suspenseful
story with twists and turns and a happy ending!  
I especially enjoyed going to church for the first time with 
Harvey and Jennifer and seeing their eyes open as they are introduced to God.  
The Priority Unit was a great book.  I am anxiously waiting to read more in the series. 

Coffee With A Character...
The character that I would most like to have coffee with is 
Harvey.  His character starts out lonely and sad after his divorce.  As the story unravels and he begins 'investigating' God 
he begins to learn to be happy and basically return to 'real living'.  
He is a 'real' good guy before God.  And then after.  We'll have to wait for Book 2.  

The Character I want to meet again ...
This is a new prompt/topic for my reviews.  I enjoyed 
Carrie's (Harvey's ex-wife) grandmother.  She is delightful character.  In a few short pages she captured my heart.  I am sure we will capture yours.

The story was good. But it took me till almost the end to get really captivated by it.  By the very end I was wanting to read the next installment of this series. 

This was a long read. Over half way through I was trudging through read it.  And, I continued in order to write this review.  I received a complimentary copy of House of Eire from the author and

Along with the copy of House of Eire I also received House of Cuts and House of Dads (information about both books is at the end of this post)I was not required to read either of these books.  The other books in this series were  'gifted' to me to introduce the series.

I chose not to read the first two books before I read House of Eire.   It is possible had I read them I would have been a 'bit' more interested in this book.  But honestly I sincerely doubt it.

I enjoyed the depth of research information that June Gillam did in writing this story.  The tour through Ireland made me feel like I was really there and had me wanting to go there.

The story about the main character Hillary going to Ireland to research her family history really didn't develop.  The sub plot about an American developer planning to build a theme park took over the story.
The mystery developed when Hillary's contact is found murdered after receiving strange voodoo type dolls.  Frankly I wasn't really surprised to find out who was behind the murder.  I was surprised along with Hillary who was involved (by association) in the scheme.

Overall I can say I thought this was a good book.  Not one that I would call great.  I am looking forward to reading House of Cuts and House of Dads and any additional installments.

The best part about House of Eire was that it was a clean story.  There were a couple discreet bedroom scenes.  The mayhem was not graphic at all.  I would recommend this book for
any audience.

Thoughts from June Gillam...
We all take many kinds of journeys. Some last for just a day and others for a lifetime. My writing journey started out with poems and journals—lots of them. Years and years of them, amounting finally to a creative writing Master’s degree from Sacramento State University in 1983, with a collection of poetry as my culminating project. Some of them were published and even won a few prizes—I still love writing poetry and that moment when the poem “arrives” into my heart and soul and I have to run catch it on paper so it won’t vanish in the midst of everyday practical business. Sometimes I’ve had to pull off the freeway to write it down. My poem “Shameless Hussy Looks Back” was published in the Winter 2015 Peregrine Magazine through the Amherst Artists & Writers Press. https://www.createspace.com/5357673

Back in the summer of 1990, though, it had come as a shock to realize, while I was a student in a teacher’s writing workshop, that I didn’t know how to write a family story. I explored that problem over the years and finally came to understand that ours was not a storytelling family. My poems started to sound to me as if they wanted to become stories, but I had been raised in a sort of goodie-two-shoes home, where conflict was kept hushed up under our rugs. Of course, stories are nothing without conflict, so I began the long and expensive project of teaching myself how to gather what I needed—courage and companions—to learn to write stories that held the tension of conflict. That ended up being the subtitle of my dissertation: Women writing stories containing conflict.

It was published by an academic press, but they priced it way too high, and I couldn’t get them to lower the price so regular folks could afford it. So I started a new journey: becoming the publisher for my own works. Now I’m Gorilla Girl Ink—bold black and white words on the page. I’ve published a book of poetry, So Sweet Against Your Teeth, and three novels in the Hillary Broome Series—where I indeed show I’ve learned to create conflict on the page!

I love the journey of life and the gift of expressing the many pathways it can take on the pages of my writing.

House of Dads

One of Gillam's strong virtues as a writer is her ability to enmesh you, the reader, in the many layered action of the story until you become that close and helpless bystander who must live every unspeakable thing out with the characters. Too bad about the hundred things and obligations with their gummy fingers on you. Too bad until the story is finished, for you are not free to return focus to your own life, not yet. When you close the book at last, it is with a sigh of relief and gratitude and satisfaction that YOU don't have to live out such things yourself as you and the characters have experienced together. Oh, but all will linger in your mind. And at the same time, you will already have an eye out for the next Hillary Broome adventure!

One of Gillam's strong virtues as a writer is her ability to enmesh you, the reader, in the many layered action of the story until you become that close and helpless bystander who must live every unspeakable thing out with the characters. Too bad about the hundred things and obligations with their gummy fingers on you. Too bad until the story is finished, for you are not free to return focus to your own life, not yet. When you close the book at last, it is with a sigh of relief and gratitude and satisfaction that YOU don't have to live out such things yourself as you and the characters have experienced together. Oh, but all will linger in your mind. And at the same time, you will already have an eye out for the next Hillary Broome adventure!
