Chris Crossed by Lauren Carr My Review New Release Book Tour

Book Details:

Book Title:  Chris Crossed Murder (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery #4) by Lauren Carr
Category:  Adult Fiction (18 +)
Genre:  Mystery
Publisher:  Acorn Book Services
Release date:   Feb 22, 2023
Content Rating:  PG-13 (Lauren Carr's books are murder mysteries, so there are murders involved. Occasionally, a murder will happen on stage. There is sexual content, but always behind closed doors. Some mild swearing (a hell or a damn few and far between). No F-bombs!

"Carr is a master at creating unique, complex plots and colorful characters, both evident in her latest cold case mystery featuring  Chris Matheson and the geezer squad. The plot is twisted, the mystery unique and the ending a surprise. A must-read!" - Review of CHRIS CROSSED MURDER (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery, Book Four) by Marilyn R. Wilson, Author, Speaker, Book Reviewer

"Lauren Carr is among my favorite mystery writers. She knows how to write a fun tale while keeping readers engaged. ...I would give Chris Crossed Murder one hundred stars if I could. I believe readers who enjoy reading well-written and clean cozy mysteries will most definitely want to read it. I have no doubt they will enjoy it as much as I did. The fifth installment from A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery series is on my radar for when it releases." - Review of CHRIS CROSSED MURDER (A Chris Matheson Cold Case Mystery, Book Four) by Amy Campbell, Locks Hooks and Books

Book Description:
It proves to be a Christmas to remember when the Matheson family receives the horrendous news that Chris Matheson’s body has been found in the woods near an international airport.

Everyone is stunned—especially Chris Matheson.

The mystery deepens when they discover the victim has Chris’s federal agent badge and appears to have been investigating one of his old cases.

The Geezer Squad’s latest case is not only a whodunit but who-got-dun. Is this a case of mistaken identity? Was Chris the intended victim? If not, then they must identify the murder victim to find his killer.

With Christmas days away, join the Chris Matheson and the Geezer Squad as they race to piece together the clues to their most puzzling case yet.

And I thought
I am a fan of Lauren Carr's characters. I first met Lauren when I read a book from the Mac Faraday series.  Frankly I was disappointed that Mac seems to have taken a back seat to Chris Matheson but Chris does manage to hold his own and has crept in to become a new favorite.
I always jump at a chance to read anything Lauren Carr writes.  It is always so easy to turn the pages.  As with any good book you hate to read that last page.  But you know that one day soon there will be more so you just wait.
Chris Crossed is an interesting title.  I was wondering if the main character gets side ways with someone.  The play on words had me wondering.  The author is a master at building a story around cold cases.  And you can see that she likes what she is doing.
The characters are always charming and they weave their way in making you kind of wanna be in their family.
Maybe it's because of all the animals that hang out and entertain and help in solving crimes. Kinda of a bit like Scooby Do.   I admit Chris Matheson has worked his way into my heart along with Mac Faraday and those Thorny Rose kids.
I received a complimentary copy.
An excerpt of my review will appear on retail sites and Good Reads.

Perfect for fans of Laura Childs and Kate Carlisle

Life hasn't been so sweet for Everly Swan over the past couple of years, but now she's back in her seaside hometown of Charm, North Carolina. The proud new owner of Sun, Sand, and Tea—a café right on the beach—Everly thinks that things are finally starting to look up. When an autopsy reports poison in his system, things don't look good for Everly or her tea shop.

As the townspeople of Charm, formerly so welcoming and homey, turn their back on Everly, she fights to dig up clues about who could have had it in for the former town councilman. With the maddeningly handsome Detective Grady Hays discouraging her from uncovering leads and a series of anonymous attacks on Everly and her tea shop, it will take everything she's got to keep this murder mystery from boiling over.

INCLUDES DELICIOUS FOOD AND DRINK RECIPES

And I thought

I have been be wanting to read the his title for awhile.  It's been on my pile longer than I care to admit.

The author keeps throwing out new titles and offering ARCs and keeping me busy!

When I discovered the first in the  series Live and Let Chai offered on YouTube I snatched it up!

I was glad to get into the series in book one.

It was fun meeting the main characters and townfolk that wander in and out of Everly's new Cafe and her life.

I like that a possible Romance was introduced in the first few pages when Everly sets sight on the new detective in town as he is arriving with a moving van.

But the romance is a slow go and simmers a little when Everly finds a body on the beach and detective hunk states that the Tea Everly had just served moments earlier needed to be taken as evidence which causes the townsfolk to reconsider visiting Everly's new Tea shop.

Bree Baker offers a fun island locale that is just as charming as the towns name Charm.

Everly's good friend owns a book shop in town and maintains Charming little libraries on the island.   That end up being the scene and hangout of a couple witnesses.

Four Parties and a Funeral by Mara DiRico Spotlight

April 3 – My Reading Journeys – SPOTLIGHT.

In this fresh and witty cozy mystery series set amid an extended Italian-American family in Astoria, Queens, catering hall owner and amateur sleuth Mia Carina must solve a murder on the set of a reality show.

The June events schedule at Belle View is busting out all over—proms, graduations, and of course, weddings. There are unexpected bookings too, including a casting call for the pilot of Dons of Ditmars Boulevard. But soon, Mia’s fears about the cheesy reality show are confirmed . . .

Belle View quickly becomes the site of a sea of wanna-be goombahs and phony girlfriends, and some of Mia’s friends insist on getting in on the action. The production company owner and his executive producer ex-wife—who’s also very minor British royalty—have assembled a motley crew that does as much infighting and backstabbing as the on-screen “talent.” Even so, it’s a shock when a dead body is found in the pool house of a local mansion rented by the show . . .

Murder might boost the ratings. But Mia intends to make sure the killer gets jail time, not airtime . . .

Italian recipes included!

"Anytime Lauren drops a new book, I will be buying it. She is a phenomenal writer. The Chris Matheson Cold Case series quickly became a favorite and will be added to my yearly re-read list." 5-Star Review by MLM Opinions Reviews

"Disguised as a book club, the self-named Geezer Squad, whose number one rule is to never talk about the squad, boasts a broad set of skills, courtesy of its members, all former law enforcement agents. They welcome Chris, recently retired from the FBI, with open arms, working with him to close numerous cold cases." - Starred Review of Ice by The iRead Review

One evening, a retired FBI agent Chris Matheson gives into his mother's prodding him to attend a book club meeting devoted to law enforcement retirees. This group of sassy seniors doesn't read books. Under the guise of a book club, they combine their individual skills and expertise to light a flame to cold case mysteries.

Chris Matheson's life changes forever.

And I thought

As a fan of Lauren Carr it is always a privilege to share a New Release or revisit an earlier title.

The Chris Matheson's Cold Case Series easily became a favorite.

Carr brings it with a hilarious group of quirky (on the surface) almost old retired professionals that have thier own set of secrets.

Carr provides the reader with a mystery to solve and a cast of characters that grab your heart.

An introduction to Chris Matheson's family including 3 precocious daughters, his mom and a houseful of animals including a huge Rabbit that allows his humans to dress him.

As Chris seems to struggle with his new retirement, becoming a widow and moving to his childhood home.

It's s the Geezer Squad (the book club) that helps him solve a mystery that is too close to home.

For this reader each title is hard to put down.

The pages seem to turn on their own as you mingle with the characters and try and figure out the Who Dun It.

Carr weaves a Cold Case murder into a current story with more than one murder to solve and several suspects.
