Tempting Beat by Brooklyn Ann-Goddess Fish Promotions

About the book
YOU NEVER KNOW…

Bleeding Vengeance’s drummer, Roderick Powell knows he’s a sod for feeling glum, especially after moving into a beautiful new home in a smart Denver suburb. But all his mates are partnered or married, and dreadfully happy. It’s enough to make a rockstar rethink his options. And even though his sexy neighbor has given him the brush-off, he’s decided to have another go – at this point he has nothing left to lose, apart from his heart.

WHAT LIES BENEATH

Gwen Mason’s romantic past has been bumpier than most – twice divorced by thirty, she’s had enough of broken promises. An ER nurse who keeps a brutal schedule, she’s happy to become known as the neighborhood crazy cat lady. But…the most delicious man has moved next door. He’s British, he’s famous, he’s a rockstar. And, hard as she tries, Gwen can't keep Rod Powell from breaking all her rules, and suddenly she sees a future she never believed possible.

And I am thinking
I got into this tour at the last minute and I am still turning the pages.
So far I am loving this romance.
Updated...turned the last page.
Tempting Beat is filled with some great characters especially
Rod and Gwen.  I am fascinated with Rod.  His character is from English nobility.  But he put all that aside and came to the U.S. to be a drummer for a heavy metal bad.
The locale is Denver, Colorado.  The bad members have chosen Denver as a place to set down roots.  A place that is convenient and legal for some of the leisure things the like to do.
Rod is interesting because he likes to restore old cars.  He gets into a conflict with the cities council when they try to get him to get rid of his cars.
Gwen is just a sweet character that has been through a lot of heart break.
As I turn the pages I am rooting for them to get together in the end.
That makes a good great romance!
I enjoyed the Rod-Gwen romance.  I enjoyed Rod's band mates
and their characters.

Gwen struggles with 'really' believing that Rod is really into her because she is stuck on the age difference (she is older).

Rod has some struggles with neighbor council and then ends up
in jail for a night when ICE shows up and his 'mates' wedding.

The author gives us a sweet romance and ties up the relationship
conflicts.

What I didn't particularly care for was how the author tied-up the
conflict that Rod was having with some of the neighbors.  The
story went from Romance to just a weird ending when two of the neighbors are unexpectedly killed in a really strange way.  It just didn't make sense to me and kind of took away from everything that I liked about the storyline.

I did really enjoy this book and would be interested to read more in the series.   Tempting Beat is book 6 in the Hearts of Metal series.
It is written as a stand alone and was very easy to get into.  No need to read the series in order but I think the characters are so interesting I would like to read more.

Cautions for the reader there are some bedrooms scenes.  There are some scenes where the characters are doing drugs.

I received a complimentary copy.

A Souffle' of Suspicion by Daryl Wood Gerber- Great Escapes Tour-Review/Giveaway

About the book (provided by Great Escapes Tours)
The buoyant mood at Bistro Rousseau deflates when Chef Camille’s sister, Renee, turns up dead in the chef’s kitchen, and Mimi Rousseau must tease the real killer out of a mélange of menacing characters.
Crush Week in Nouvelle Vie is a madhouse—in a good way. Tourists pour into town for the pressing of the Napa Valley’s world-renowned grapes and all the town’s businesses get a nice lift, including Bistro and Maison Rousseau. Mimi is raising the ante this year with a Sweet Treats Festival, a wonderland of croissants, cakes, tarts, and soufflés crafted with expert care by the area’s top talents.
Chef Camille’s sister Renee is managing the festival with a cast-iron fist, upsetting everyone, including her sister. Which is bad for Camille when Renee turns up dead in the chef’s kitchen. Mimi is still building her business, so her first course of action is to whip up answers and catch the unsavory perpetrator before Camille takes a dusting and gets burned.
And others are saying
Warmth, humor, a few chills, a soupçon of intrigue, and plenty of charm make for a great read. A SOUFFLE OF SUSPICION is a delectable entrée in the French Bistro Mystery series.
~Cozy Up With Kathy
Delicious food, engaging characters, and a well-constructed plot join with the gorgeous setting to make this book a delightful read from start to finish.
~Reading is My SuperPower
A Soufflé of Suspicion, book #2 in the French bistro series, is delicious – and I don’t mean that as a pun. It is simply the essence of all that a cozy mystery should be.
~The Power of Words

I found A Souffle of Suspicion to be well-written and it has a nice steady pace. The author has a conversational writing style that is engaging.
~The Avid Reader
And I thought
A very fun read.  I enjoyed everything about this book.
The storyline/plot was interesting and kept me turning the pages while trying to figure out Who Dun It?
Daryl does a great job of leaving little tid bits and leading the reader on a ride while trying to figure it out.
There are some subtle clues early on that kind of get swept away causing the reader and the characters to look for answers elsewhere.
This book and series has some delightful characters.
I loved Mimi's character.  I loved her name Mimi Rousseau so very french sounding.  Mimi is one talented business woman owning the Bistro Cafe and the Maison Rousseau.  Such charming places that almost come to life.  I wanted to visit! MiMi spends
alot of time talking to herself and going over the clues and working things out in her head until finally she puts everything together
and figures out who really killed poor Renee.  Everyone including this reader is a bit surprised at the out come and who the villain is.
As the story progressed there was no shortage of suspects.
But each are exonerated in due time as their alibi's are covered.
There really are alot of characters running around.  But it was
difficult to keep track of what was going on.
If I was to choose a favorite among them it might be MiMi's mother.  She was delightful and charming at ready and willing to lend a hand whether it was watching over Camille in the early hours after she discovers her sisters body.  Or by bringing lots of diners to the Maison Rousseau for a dinner party.
As Souffle of Suspicion is part of the French Bistro Mystery
series there is lot of talk about food.  There are some great sounding recipes at the end of the book.
Souffle of Suspicion is book 2 in the series and is written as a
stand alone.  If you pic it up you'll enjoy it and quite possibly have a hard time putting it down.   I did.  This was a fun and fast 5 star read for me.   I am looking forward to reading more in this series.

I received a complimentary copy.

Bad Time To Be In It by David Burnsworth- Great Escapes Tour Review/Guest Post/Giveaway

About the book
The past is never past. Sometimes it repeats itself. And sometimes it comes back to pay a visit. Blu Carraway, flush with cash and back in business, never had it so good. Or so he thought. The reality is his love life is in shambles, his business partner is spending too much time with women half his age and not enough time on the job, and someone close goes missing. Blu’s business partner goes off the rails, his friends show their true colors, and he realizes that getting closure sometimes means walking away from everything. With a case from the past gone wrong twice, a loved one in trouble, and an unanswered marriage proposal, it’s a bad time to be in it for Blu Carraway Investigations.

And I thought
Hold on to your seat.  This one is a page turner.  From page one where we find Blu on assignment in Belize all the way to the last page the reader is taken on a fast past ride along with Blu and his friends.
Just as his job in Belize and before he has a chance to relax in the sun he's called home.
His partners girlfriend is missing and all 'you know what' is about to break loose! As in loose cannon his partner Crome.
On a good day Crome fits his image of rough biker dude.
But let someone go after his girl then trouble isn't just brewing it's down right on fire.
Blu gets back just in time to search for Crome's girl Maureen.
When Crome gets a text with a photo of Mauren he ends up going rouge and takes off on his own.
With the help of some friends (and there are a lot of them) Blu
starts looking for clues.
Blu calls in some old favors and gets some help from Tess and
Harmony two investigative reporters that seem to always be around when Blu needs a little help.
And then the tables are turned and Harmony disappears.
Two women missing and Blue and Crome have no clue why.

And when Blu's private island home is threatened (almost) some
help comes from the most unlikely place.  The wild horses that share the island with Blu  not only 'protect' there home but find evidence for Blu.

I enjoyed Bad To Be In It is a fast paced read.  You will be on the edge of your seat as you turn the pages.   I look for ward to the next installment.

I Escaped and found myself  in . . .
(Character interview)
Setting:  Isle of Palms, South Carolina; a ramshackle bar constructed in the form of an old Spanish Frigate painted a faded green that faced the Atlantic Ocean. The bar’s flag, a cigar-smoking Jolly Roger wearing a dark blue South Carolina state flag bandana and aviator shades snapped in the sea breeze.

Six-feet-tall and perpetually tan, Brack Pelton, late-thirties and the owner of the establishment, served drinks to a few patrons on the upper of the two decks that overlook the Atlantic.
Interviewer: “Hello Brack, thanks for taking a few minutes to chat. I’m glad things are a little quiet here at the Pirate’s Cove at least for now!”  (interviewer)
“He’s not,” said a woman working behind the bar with Brack. Her name’s Paige and she’s the bar’s manager. In her late twenties, thin, and wearing a polo with the bar’s flag embroidered over her heart and khaki shorts, she converted the bar from island outcast into one of the main tourist attractions.
“She’s here to interview me,” Brack said, “not you.”
“Don’t be a baby,” she said. “You’ve been moping around here, dragging your feet, wondering why Blu Carraway and Mick Crome haven’t been by.”
“This is quite a place you have here. So did you choose the Isle of Palms or did it kind of choose you?”  (interviewer)
Brack looked at Paige. “Mind if I take this one?”
With a smile, she said, “If you think you can handle it.” She pulled two bottles of R.J. Rockers out of a cooler and took them to a couple sitting at one of the tables.
Bob Marley’s “Stir It Up” played on the bar’s sound system.
“This was my uncle’s place,” Brack said, leaning back against the cabinets behind the bar. “He built it in the seventies and rebuilt it after Hurricane Hugo demolished the county in eighty-nine. When I got out of the Marines, I came here because I had no place else to go. Now, I don’t want to leave.”
“It does seem like a nice place for a meal and a cold drink. How did you come to owning the Pirate’s Cove?” (interviewer)
“I inherited it.” Brack hesitated, then said, “Someone killed my uncle and after I took care of that, I decided to try running the place.”
“By running it, he means dropping by every now and then,” Paige said.
“She’s right,” Brack said. “I do the promotion and she handles everything else.”
“If you call getting your mug shot on the front page of the paper ‘promotion.’”
“I was kind of wondering what’s up with the walls?” (interviwer)
“My uncle had the pirate paintings and nautical decorations and we, Paige and I, kept that theme.”
Paige said, “The bullet holes are Brack originals.”
“I know there must be a story there probably with Blu and his partner right in the middle. Am I right?”  (interviewer)
Brack took a sip of iced tea and put the glass down. “These two killers show up one Saturday afternoon. I was having a bad day anyway—”
“Because Darcy had left your sorry butt at the time,” Paige offered. “I’m still not sure why she reconsidered and married you.”
“Anyway,” Brack said, giving a brief, if forced, smile, “these two men come in and gun down one of my patrons. Nobody does that in my bar. Blu showed up after the work was done. Come to think of it, he has a knack for doing that, the bum.”
While it sounded like a shot, Brack gave a genuine smile when he said it as if he didn’t hold any grudges.
“Yeah,” Paige said, “but I had to clean up the mess you made, and I’m not just talking about the puddle of blood we had to have professionally removed from the hardwood floor.”
“Wow, that is quite the story. It seems to be a little hard to keep things quiet around here with some of the folks hanging out and bringing trouble to your door.”  (interviewer)
“Are you kidding?” Paige said. “Brack keeps buying them free rounds. Of course they’re going to hang out.”
“I’m guessing that little episode and then the mayor’s body washing up on shore just outside your door is keeping things hopping around here?” (interviewer)
Looking out toward the ocean, Brack said, “Business is booming.”
Two guys walked up the stairs, both of them over six foot and solid. One with dark hair wore Wayfarer sunglasses, a black t-shirt, jeans, and Doc Martens shoes. He gave a friendly smile.
The other man with him, a biker with aviator shades, a Harley-Davidson t-shirt, faded blue jeans, and boots, said,  “Hey kid, do I have to get my own beer or what?”
“There goes the neighborhood,” Paige said just before she went up to the men and gave them both cheek kisses.
“It looks like trouble walked in again.” (interviewer)
“Hey Babe,” the biker said to Paige. “When’re you gonna ditch that cop husband of yours and ride off with me?”
The man in black said, “Don’t worry, Crome couldn’t settle down long enough for you to get on the back of his bike before he took off.”
Crome said, “Now that’s just plain disrespectful, Blu.”
“Maybe I need to finish off my drink and head out.” (interviewer)
“Stick around,” Crome said. “Brack still thinks he can beat Blu at darts.”
“No, Mick,” Blu said. “You’re the one who got drunk and challenged the whole bar to a tournament.”
“Yeah,” Brack said. “And did pretty good except for the last round. Must’ve had one too many tequila shots.”
“Shut up,” Crome said.

“It’s definitely time for me to leave.” (interviewer)

Cajun Persuasion-by Sandra Hill-Pure Textuality Review/Giveaway

Cajun Persuasion cover
About the book
Alaskan pilot Aaron LeDeux came to Louisiana with his brother to discover his Cajun roots. But any hopes he had of returning home are extinguished when he agrees to help a crew of street monks and nuns rescue trafficked girls from strip clubs, pimps, and other horrors. For the work has become his new calling.
With her harrowing past, Fleur Gaudet only feels safe at the nunnery. But when she’s ordered out into the real world to decide where she truly belongs, Fleur goes to live with the LaDeux family. Suddenly, she’s in regular clothes, thinking irregular thoughts about Aaron. With his whiskey-colored eyes and fierce bravery, Aaron is like her own personal Cajun cowboy, re-introducing her to…everything.    As the dangerous missions brings them closer, Fleur must decide if she’ll continue her path—or if she’ll have a new future with the man she’s losing her heart to.
Read an excerpt
(One year ago)
A girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do . . .
Fleur Gaudet, whose name tag read Doris Jones, stood in the dressing room of the Silver Stud Club in New Orleans, using a long-handled dustpan and broom to sweep along the edges of the tiled floor, all the while keeping an alert eye on her surroundings. Al- though she wore a blonde wig to hide her identity and a rather demure black nylon uniform with a white apron, as befitted her new job on the club’s cleaning staff, unlike the scantily clad women around her, she was still outside her comfort zone. Way outside!
She decided to offer up the discomfort as a penance for past—and future—sins. Mortifying the flesh, so to speak. Like that self-flagellating albino monk in The Da Vinci Code. You had to be Catholic to understand the logic of suffering in silence and offering it up as a heavenly gift.
But then, Fleur was a nun!
An honest-to-God, hope-and-pray nun. Like Mother Teresa.
Well, not really like that holier-than-holy nun, bless her heart, who had lived, by choice, in abject poverty in Calcutta. In the old days, Mother Teresa would probably have worked in a leper colony.
On the other hand, a strip club was somewhat like a leper colony, wasn’t it?
Truth to tell, Fleur wasn’t really a nun yet. More like a nun-in-training, with the Sisters of Magdalene religious order. The Magdas had originated in Spain, but expanded into satellite convents throughout the world. Like the one in Mexico, with which she was affiliated, that had in recent years joined forces with the rogue order, St. Jude’s Street Apostles, in Dallas. Their mission: to rescue girls kidnapped into the sex trade. Which was why she and some of her partners were in this sleazy club tonight.
There were other females in the dressing room, but mostly they kept to themselves as they lounged or touched up make-up. None of them were the young, frightened teens they hoped to rescue, though. Not that they were old, exactly. In fact, Peaches Galore, the girl in front of her, was no more than twenty-two years old, wearing a sheer black bustier and a G-string and heels high enough to give a person a nosebleed.
Peaches was on her cell phone, presumably talking to one of her three children, all under the age of eight, that she’d told Fleur about a short time ago. “No, you cannot make a frozen pizza, Henry. You know the stove is off-limits. The microwave, too. Did Jimmy say his prayers before you put him to bed? He skipped Auntie Priss?” Peaches laughed, and murmured something under her breath about how she would skip the old bat, too. “Did you change Elisa Mae’s diaper? I don’t care if it stinks, do as you’re told. I know, sweetie. I’m sorry I yelled. Be a good boy, and tomorrow we’ll go to the park with your remote control airplane.”
It was sad, really. But the Magdas couldn’t rescue everyone. And not everyone working in this club wanted or needed rescuing.
Just then, the door flew open as a group of strippers, waitresses, lap dancers, and bar maids trooped in, laugh- ing, cursing, talking, many of them pulling five-, ten-, and twenty-dollar bills from their G-strings or thigh- high fishnet stockings. The pounding beat of that old Mötley Crüe song “Girls, Girls, Girls” could be heard through the open door, coming from the DJ station.
Also, through the open doorway, she could see the raised circular stage with its spokes leading out into the crowd, up close and personal. At any one time, a dozen girls were dancing. Another dozen would be doing lap dances in semi-private alcoves.
A regular meat factory! Ironically, that’s just what this former warehouse had been . . . a huge meat packing plant.
And none of these activities included those upstairs, which was why Fleur and her “posse” of nuns were here tonight with the Rogues.
“Gentlemen, let’s give a warm—no, hot—welcome to the next round of ladies,” the DJ yelled out. The door hadn’t closed tightly. “Chocolate Cream. Bubble Icious. Fanny Bigguns. Ms. Demeanor. Moana Bigona.”
Yep, this was a high-class place, all right.
Fleur rolled her eyes as the air compressor door finally swooshed shut, muting the club noise. Just then, she noticed one of her religious cohorts, Sister Carlotta, leaning her forehead against the wall, muttering something. Lottie was working as a waitress, not a topless one in the bar, but a regularly dressed one in the coffee shop. Her uniform was similar to Fleur’s, except shorter, and she wore the proverbial high heels. She wore a wig, too, but hers was black and cut into a straight bob. Attractive, actually.
Fleur went up to her and whispered, “Lottie, are you all right?”
Lottie nodded, then turned to face her. “I was praying. This place just gets to me. How disgusting! And sad!”
“I know what you mean.”
Carlotta waved the ten-dollar bill in front of Fleur and said, “A man stuck this in my blouse, then had the nerve to ask if I had five dollars in change. This place feels like hell.”
Or a leper colony. Fleur barely stifled a laugh. Car- lotta wasn’t that old—about twenty-five—but she’d been in a conventional Spanish convent since she was thirteen. The philosopher John Milton’s “cloistered virtue” personified.
Carlotta, like many other humble nuns who cherished the insular life of prayer and meditation inside the walls of an abbey, was a victim of the upheaval in all the flagging religious orders, male and female, throughout the world. The old ways no longer worked.

And I thought
I couldn't put it down!  I was easily persuaded to keep turning the pages especially after the prologue (see above) what a great start to
get you into a great book!

I enjoyed the characters!  All of them!  From the sweet Fleur and of course Aaron; his twin brother and his very pregnant wife Samantha. Then there was the aunt that was a matchmaker and quite the character.  The animals that Samantha had adopted were a fun addition not to mention the alligator that hung out at the aunts and guarded the place when the bad guys came looking for Fleur.

Cajun Persuasion was more than I expected.  I expected a romance with a bit of drama.  A little on again off again/back and forth between the couple.  But that is not what Sandra Hill gives you at all.  She gives you a real story.  A story that is borderline
thriller which was refreshing for me.

Creating a romance around a storyline about the rescue of kidnapped teenage girls was a refreshing twist from the normal romance.  Although it was refreshing it was a little sad too.
Because it's not really a storyline it is sadly a true event that happens everyday.

This was my introduction to Sandra Hill and the Cajun Series.
I will be reading more in this series beginning with Cajun Crazy.

Cajun Persuasion is written as a stand alone and is easily read and enjoyed without reading the rest of the series although I expect you'll be like me and want to read more.

Bamboozled by Barbara Barrett-Great Escapes Tour/Review

About the book (provided by Great Escapes Tours)
Essential oils distributor Dorcas Wiley is the boss everyone loves to hate. So when she turns up dead, killed by her own trophy, disgruntled saleswoman Cathy Broderick is the obvious suspect in her murder. Despite opportunity, motive and incriminating evidence, Cathy declares her innocence and enlists her mah jongg pals—Sydney Bonner and her cronies Marianne, Micki and Kat—to help save her from the death penalty.
Hot off a recent and nearly deadly investigation, the women are cautious about putting themselves in peril again. Syd’s spouse isn’t thrilled about another mystery in their lives, either, but he can’t resist the plea of Cathy’s husband. Soon, Syd is leading the way as they tangle with grumpy salespeople, the victim’s estranged husband and boyfriend, a mysterious housekeeper, a litigious customer, an annoyed sheriff and Cathy’s own arrogant lawyer.
The women have their own issues to deal with in their central Florida town of Serendipity Springs. Kat faces a health challenge, Micki fields a mysterious inquiry from her ex, Marianne has a chaotic anniversary and Syd wrestles with her husband over who’s really in charge. But nothing puts everyday life into perspective like the moment when their investigation brings them face to face with danger.
And others are saying
This second book in the Mah Jongg Mystery series is a fun read . . . The characters are quirky, well-developed and just fun!
~Valerie’s Musings
. . . the storyline is built around four friends of early retirement years who play mah jongg together and share a unique bond in each other’s lives, beautifully combining elements of cozy mystery and women’s fiction genres.
~The Power of Words
This is not a simple cozy mystery set up. This is not simple anything. Well thought out and well entangled.
~Laura’s Interests
And I thought
I was delighted to get the opportunity to read the 2nd book in the Mah Jongg Mystery series!

Book 1 swept me into these characters.  And characters they were!

Sydney and her fiesty senior friends are funny and fun.  Although
they back away from mystery and murder they are kept pulled in when the other players from Mah Jongg keep getting accused of
murder.

This time it was Cathy who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Leaving her scarf behind ended up getting her into
some hot water when her boss is discovered murdered.

Since Sydney has experience in solving murders she is called in to help guide the seemingly over zealous police.

This time to keep Sydney and her friends out of trouble her husband Trip volunteers to help.

The sparks fly when the two begin to work together.  Trip has his
way of wanting to do things.  But Sydney with more experience and a talent for investigating has her way and she's not settling.

Honestly it took me to the end to finally really get to like Trip.
He is hard to describe.  He whines alot.  He's get ticked off and runs off and hits golf balls.  He's just hard to live with which makes me love Sydney more for putting up with him!

Before all questions are answered and the true murderer is discovered another body shows up.

Well, the boyfriend didn't do it because he got done too!

It takes all the patience, courage and skill Sydney has to connect all the dots but not before the real bad guys try to 'off' Sydney and Trip when they get a little to close to discovering the real
motive and the real criminal(s).

All ends up being sorted out just in time for Trip to get back to planning a cruise for their friends.  I can already see the setting for book 3.  A murder at sea with Sydney and Trip playing sleuth.

They just keep getting better!  If you enjoy a good cozy check out the series.  Each book is a stand alone!

I received a complimentary copy.
